This Year's Best Halloween Costumes

It's October already and you know what that means. You better have a good idea of what you'll be dressing up as this Halloween. Costumes already starting flying off the shelves in September, and you don't want to be that sad sap who shows up at Target on the 30th looking to fit into a children's costume because you procrastinated a bit too much this year once again. To help out we've put together a little list of the top Halloween costumes this year! From music artists to movie characters, here are some ideas for you before it gets too late.

Best Halloween Costumes
Avatar Navi

Quite possibly one of the greatest cinematic achievements of all time was released earlier this year when Avatar hit the big screen. Everyone and their mothers rushed to check out the Navi whip some human ass, and somehow get an environmental message out of it. What did we get out of it? That the tall blue and lanky species would make a great costume for Halloween. Expect to see a lot of tall, or short, people walking the streets covered from head to toe in blue paint, hair braided and all. It's pretty easy to put this costume together, it's just going to be a pain taking it off.

Best Halloween Costumes
Harry Potter

Yep, so long as the movies keep coming out, you better believe that Harry Potter costumes will be one of the most popular for Halloween. Guys, another great and easy ideas to go with, just grab that old grown from high school graduation and accessorize, whether it's a wand, the glasses, or scribbling on a little lighting bolt on your forehead. Ladies, while Hermoine may not be the sexiest dressed girl in the movie, don't be afraid to spice things up and opt for a kids size costume. Don't act like you didn't think about it before.

Best Halloween Costumes
Iron Man

It's one of the biggest blockbuster movies of the last 5 years, and it seems to continue to do well outside of the theater. If you're a fan of superheroes (and most of us all are...even you cool guys out there) then this should definitely be in your realm of possibilities for costumes this year. Now, as far as the type of costume that you could get to be Ironman, you have a lot of options. First, there's the easy soft-foldable types that really don't make you look like Iron Man, but more like you're wearing kids jammies. Then you have the types that really let people know that you went out of your way. They look and feel real, only they won't stop bullets.

Best Halloween Costumes
Lady Gaga

There are many looks that Lady Gaga has, so you'll have plenty of options for this one. Known as the most popular force is pop music today, Lady Gaga would definitely find it amusing if you dressed up as her, but put some damn effort into it! Ladies, if you're going to shoot for this one, we suggest that you really go all out with the hair. In the grand scheme of the Gaga costume, the hair is the center piece. If you slack on that, you might as well call it quits.

Best Halloween Costumes
Michael Jackson

This is one costume that never really gets old. When you dress up as the King of Pop, not only will you get everyone's attention, but they'll instantly know who you are (unless they're from some small island where music is only made by the village people). Instead of opting for the Michael that everyone relates to (shiny red jacket andwhite t-shirt), we say go for the "I'm Bad" Michael. Yes, we know it's not easy to be as badass as Michael was in the video, but you can try with a black leather jacket and a ton of safety pins. It's Halloween, be creative!

Best Halloween Costumes
Mad Men

So someone may not exactly pinpoint who you are if you decide to put on a dress or suit that resembles the style of Mad Men's decadent 60s attire, but at least you'll look sharp. This has been one of the mostpopular series since the Sopranos, so you can definitely bet that you'll see a fair share of dapperly dressed males (with scotch glasses in hand) and females waltzing around your local Halloween party. It may not be the cheapest costume you buy, but it'll sure be the easiest to put together.

Best Halloween Costumes
Kanye West

About one year ago Kanye West was one of the most hated figures in music. Once he started releasing music a few months ago, he quickly reminded people how damn talented he is and now he's back on top as the best rapper/producer around. Sure he had a little run-in with Taylor Swift, but that doesn't mean that thousands across the nation won't bedressing up like him this Halloween. First and foremost you're going towant to get your hands on glasses like the ones he's wearing in the picture. After that, get yourself a flashy thick chain (real or fake), then you can pretty much throw on a any outfit that looks like you just got it off the clothes rack at Bloomingdales. Easy enough right?

Best Halloween Costumes
Barack Obama

The president of the United States is one of the most popular individuals on the planet, so why not dress up as him on Halloween? It's an easy costume, throw on a suit and one of his signature Obama masks, and you're good to go. Only problem is, you may get a lot off lack from drunk Republicans roaming the streets on Halloween. They could very well mistake you for the real person and pull the insult card.

Best Halloween Costumes
Deadmau5

Deadmau5 dresses up in a costume nearly every time he takes the stage, so why not try and look like him on the best night of the year? The only problem with dressing up like Deadmau5 is actually trying to create the headpiece if you're not too crafty? You may be able to find some replicas online, but if you can't, we say take a shot as trying to build it. Once you have that together, slap on some jeans and a t-shirt and you're done with your costume.

Best Halloween Costumes
The Jersey Shore

This one might take the cake for this year's most popular Halloween costume. The cast of the Jersey Shore epitomizes what a daily costume would seem like to many, with their outrageous fashion and insane loud hairstyles. Expect to see a lot of ladies out there with BIG hair, and guys trying to flash their muscle as best they could, á la The Situation. You may not live in the Jersey Shore now, but that doesn't mean you can't look like it on Halloween.
