Lil Wayne’s protégé, Drake, stood onstage in Las Vegas performing “Miss Me,” a song that the two do together. In a spectacular surprise, Lil Wayne stepped onto the stage right in time for his verse. Drake recalls the experience, "I didn't quite know what was going on. I looked back and there's the man. I jumped higher than I've ever jumped in my entire life.” Lil Wayne tweaked the lyrics a bit changing “Miss Me” to “Miss You,” and addressing Drake with the line, "I was gone ‘till November, but don't trip because I know you was gonna kill 'em.”
On Sunday, November 7th, a party in Miami was held in honor of Wayne’s release. Among the attendees were Drake, Rick Ross, Nicki Minaj, Fat Joe, Cool & Dre, Bryan "Baby" Williams, and many more. Right before the epic festivities that gave new meaning to the term, “release party,” Wayne commented, "I just wanna thank everybody. The fans across the whole world. Most of all, my family. I couldn't do it without them and I would never do it without them."
Perhaps this marks a new era for Lil Wayne. He seems particularly sentimental about his friends and family now that he’s been released from Rikers after serving time for a firearms possession charge. The next step is his new album, which already has even the biggest names in hip-hop waiting anxiously in anticipation. Maybe now, Wayne will finally put the streets behind him, and simply do what he does best – music.
