The color green is known to symbolize nature, good luck, health and tranquility. However, there’s one day every year where the symbolic nature of this color changes as it’s associated with Ireland, beer, leprechauns and luck; St. Patrick’s Day. This year, the festive holiday lands on a Monday, the most feared day of the week by nine to fivers all around. Although it may be the start of the workweek, there’s no reason why you still can’t sneak out a bit early to celebrate the patron saint of Ireland and throw back a few Guinness. The Junkies have put together a list of the top five St. Patty’s Day bars in the area. What we’re shooting for here is authenticity; drink specials and a festive atmosphere. So when Monday rolls around, throw on something green, or fear the dreaded pinch, and hit up one of these featured St. Patrick’s Day bars.
Tobacco Road
626 South Miami Avenue.
What’s St. Patrick’s Day without paying a visit to Tobacco Road? Their plans for the big day include specials on…you guessed it, Guinness! Going the whole day without having at least one pint of Guinness is just blasphemy. Also, pay attention to the color of the brew that you order. Don’t be surprised if it matches the décor of the day.
The Playwright Irish Pub and Restaurant
1265 Washington Ave., Miami Beach
The friendly folks over at Playwright on the Beach are getting ready for a big one. Things will kick up with the specials on their traditional meals starting with breakfast and working their way down to dinner in the afternoon. Live music starts at 4PM and won’t end till the doors close. The pints will definitely be flowing at this authentic venue. Then again, they always do.
John Martin’s Irish Pub and Restaurant
253 Miracle Mile, Coral Gables
One of the highlighted parties of the day will be taking place at this quaint Miracle Mile pub. They’re going all out and even closing off the street for their events and specials that kick off Friday the 14th! Four days of celebrating St. Patrick’s Day? Seems like John Martin’s takes this one very seriously. The weekend at John Martin’s is packed with drink specials, live music and open mike nights.
Bennigan’s Grill and Tavern
13603 S. Dixie Highway, Miami
We’re going a bit commercial with this, but it’s a must. How can you deny a bar that supplies you with happy hour all day everyday? For St. Patty’s Day Bennigan’s will be hosting their yearly Blarney Blast, featuring live music that starts at 8PM, their signature green beer, and they’ll be extending their hours to 1:30AM.
The Downtowner Saloon
10 South New River Drive East, Fort Lauderdale
So it may be a bit of a drive away, but this is without a doubt one of the biggest St. Patrick’s Day events in the area. The festivities here will too begin this weekend. The street will shutdown as great food and drink specials, including green beer and 400lbs of corned beef and cabbage, will be consumed in ridiculous amounts. There’s no other way to do it on this day.
