Saturday, Oct. 2 was a night of vengeance in Puerto Rico. Both our local boxing hero Felix "Tito" Trinidad and breaks superstar Adam Freeland came back for a vengeance, conspiring to create a night of endless party in San Juan.
First of all, nothing moves the whole island of Puerto Rico more than a fight of our beloved Felix "Tito" Trinidad, considered by many the best boxer in the world.
On Saturday, Trinidad came back after 2 years of retirement to take on Nicaraguan trash-talking boxer Ricardo Mayorga.
Famous for his dirty tactics, crazy lifestyle, and unorthodox boxing skills, not to mention the fact that no one had knocked him down before, Mayorga posed a great threat to our back-from-retirement Trinidad.
But on Saturday night, it was evidenced that "Tito" is seriously back after literally kicking the crap out of the Mayorga bully and knocking the lights out of him in Round 8.
The victory turned Puerto Rico upside down as everyone on the island came out to celebrate like crazy such important event. No matter where you went, people were screaming "Tito, Tito, Tito" and there was a party everywhere.
The after-the-fight party for San Juan clubbers was delivered by no other than breaks superstar Adam Freeland, who also came back for a vengeance since his appearance last year at Barolo's.
On Saturday night, all the roads led to Dali Lounge in Old San Juan, an exotic restaurant and one of San Juan's hottest night party venues.
The opening of the night was handled by our own deejay and producer, RED, who delivered a really interesting set of progressive, electro, and some electroclash.
The most exciting track for me was the Fergie remix of "Shout" that, even if it's not better than the Skylark remix, is a really nice track.
At about 3 a.m., Adam Freeland started his set with a really interesting self-produced intro. He started his set strong and created the first climax when he threw a remix of Smashing Pumpkins' "1979" who blew me and Dj Troko (who was right next to me) away.
After a couple of flawless mixes, he threw his famous track "We want your soul", which was the main theme of the party (We want your /soul/vote).
The only thing I didn't like about Freeland's set was the fact that he mixed his remix- "Smells like Adam Freeland", with the original Nirvana's "Smells like Teen Spirit".
Not only did he mix these back to back, but he looped a sample of the song and then he stuck on programming it on every other mix for quite a while. Honestly, it smelled like too much teen spirit for my taste.
Anyways,he managed to have the whole dancefloor captivated till the end of his set. For me, the best track played was Spektrum's "Kinda New" (Tiefschwarz dub), which has been rocking dancefloors since last year and is a key ingredient on some of the best deejays' record bags.
Overall, the night was absolutely great, the party was not packed, but the vibe was amazing. Also, the decoration was mind blowing: with two huge projection screens, laser, and two plasma screens in front of the DJ booth, Dali was turned into a really nice club atmosphere.
