As the saying goes, "Good things come to those who wait." When it comes to heading out to your favorite nightlife venue or concert, this is especially true. Our friends across the pond call it "queuing." The simple act of standing one after another has been ingrained into our collective mindset since we were in kindergarten (remember going to the lunch room, gymnasium, bathroom?). As human beings we have been trained and conditioned through childhood to know how to sit back, wait your turn and not piss off the person in front of you. However, there is standing in line... and there is STANDING IN LINE. There is a certain code of conduct, a certain social etiquette that should be followed at all times while queuing. The most important thing to remember about standing in line at a nightclub is that, like any social interaction it is what you make of it. Lining up could be the most awkward moment of your life, or the perfect opportunity to get to know someone a little better, or even get to know someone for the first time.

Do

- Be Patient

Do Not

- Be so patient that you wait for your friends to come talking over after you hold their place in line for an hour.

There is nothing more annoying and infuriating than someone who graciously takes it upon themselves to hold the spot for their comrades who were too lazy to stand in line for themselves. 1. Standing in line is a testament to how much you want to get into the club. It's the time we put in to make it to the top. No pain no gain, feel me? It is not and will never be alright to hit up your little brother on his iPhone to see how far he is from the door and than join him with two people left in front of him, let alone guys.

Do

- Be polite and friendly to your neighbors in line.

Do Not

- Jump into their ultra personal conversation with absolutely no knowledge of their life or what they were talking about to begin with!

While yes, it's just fine to say hello to your fellow line mates and make polite conversation, there is nothing more ‘douschelike’ than to completely assume that you know everything about somebody just because you've been eaves dropping on their conversation for the last 15 minutes. The reason? Awkwardness. If the conversation becomes slightly strained, you will still have to stand next to this person for an unforeseen amount of time, and that kind of irritation could completely ruin the event you are lining up for in the first place. Save yourself the hassle and keep it light.

Do

- Be friendly to the staff of the club, especially those tending to the door.

Do Not

- Hassle the staff due to wait time, or anything else you might feel that you are entitled to.

What’s the biggest rule for those who go to restaurants? Don't mess with the people who make/serve your food. The same rule applies for those who are the great deciders upon where you will be spending your evening. The worst thing you can do is hassle the staff/bouncers/cashiers about the wait time. You are not on the guest list, which is the whole reason you are waiting in line to begin with! Kindness, however, can take you from the "never getting in" line to the "next to get in" designation. Make nice with the staff and they will be nice back. The same applies to everyone who works a service job in New York City.

Do

- Pregame

Do Not

- Get so wasted while pre-gaming that you can’t even stand under your own power let alone find your ID and cash to get into the Club.

This is pretty straightforward. There's nothing that can kill a whole line's great mood than some drunk dude falling into everyone and dry heaving into the bushes while waiting in line. Although it seems really funny at first, that good 30-45 minute wait to get in will get really claustrophobic really fast, if Mr./Mrs. "I can’t handle my liquor," targets you, your friends or your significant other to be their next best friend/projectile vomit receptacle. Get your swerve on before you hit the club to save some cash, but do it in a way where you wont be defined by the bouncing staff as "the dude who's the first to get thrown out tonight."

If you stick to these rules, and also use a little common sense, you can enjoy your queuing experience to its fullest potential! Keep in mind anything that would annoy/bother you while standing in close quarters with a whole bunch of other people, will most likely annoy/bother someone else in the same, if not much more severe fashion. Avoid the awkwardness and irritation and be polite!

The U.S. has always been cranking out electronic dance music artists that have held their own in the genre around the world. But as of late, there’s one name that’s been getting a lot of praise and recognition from electronic music hotbeds around the world like Ibiza, London and Berlin, Kaskade. When we spoke to Pete Tong a few weeks back, he name dropped Kaskade as one of the bigger artists to come out of North America that everyone’s been going crazy about, and this week he’ll be in Miami at one of the most popular nightclubs in South Beach.

Ladies, if you haven’t heard of Kaskade then his signature house tracks will definitely be right up your alley, and guys, if you’ve heard his music but don’t necessarily dig it, we suggest going to this event because the ratio will definitely be in your favor. Expect the venue to be slammed from wall to wall and lots of crowd singing, people are definitely familiar with his club anthems. It's pretty fair to say that this event will be sold out, so if you're looking to attend we suggest getting tickets now, because chances are the door will be a mission for you.

The infamous hospitality conglomerate, The Opium Group, just added another venue to its extremely successful resume in the form of Mokaï. The venue had recently become available and the Opium Group wasted no time in moving in for the purchase. This is their second buy in a matter of months, seeing as they’ve also added Cameo Nightclub to their family of highly successful nightlife venues in South Beach. As of right now Mansion, Cameo, SET, Louis and Mokaï are all in the Opium Group's South Beach nightlife family, names that attract some of the city’s biggest spenders and some of the world’s biggest DJs to come in on a weekly basis and serve up some sound.

Now it’s pretty fair to say that when it comes to South Beach, the Opium Group leads all others in nightlife. If other venues have a chance of shutting down, you can bet that the Opium Group will be lurking around the corner and ready to snatch it up. That’s fine with us, because they know how to run a nightclub and how to keep locals and visitors coming back for more. There may be more shifts for them in the near future, so keep visiting us for more news.

Sometimes going to the same nightclubs can get old. Even if you frequent two or three, most of the time it’s the same setup; giant dance floors facing the DJ booth and a bar here and there. But sometimes there’s a certain level of exclusivity that you look for, and we’re talking inside not at the door. Sure we have places like SET and Mokaï, but those are a bit too tough at the door at times and get packed way to quickly. However, there is one gem in South Beach that’s tucked away inside of one of the most talked about hotels in SoBe history, The Clevelander. Inside of this hotel you’ll find 1020 Music Boxx, a venue that combines intimacy, sound and art to create one hell of a nightlife experience.

One thing that automatically catches your eye when you step into 1020 Music Boxx is the 100 square foot DJ booth. While many may think that it’s a little too much, there’s nothing like making the entertainment of the night feel like he’s at home, and what’s better than a 100 square foot DJ booth? 1020 Music Boxx is a hybrid of a venue, making it the perfect combination of a nightclub and a lounge. Featuring two full-service bars, banquettes and wall-to-wall window views of Ocean Drive, it’s definitely a site for sore eyes. But what’s most unique about this venue may not be the actual set-up, but the party formatting.

There’s a little something for everyone at 1020 Music Boxx when it comes to music formatting. In Miami it’s tough to find a place that serves everything up, but this place actually does. Whether it’s mash-ups, hip-hop, R&B or even live musicians, they have it all at 1020 Music Boxx. That and the combination of the LED lighting in the venue make for one great experience that everyone should try at least once.

If you happen to be in SoBe and you’re not really feeling the vibe of a big club, this is definitely one option that you should be looking out for.

All things nightlife are really starting to pick up this month, not that October didn’t treat us very well, but this month has already featured shows by Sasha, Paco Osuna, Sander Kleinenberg, and names like Deadmau5, Paul van Dyk and David Guetta are still to come. However, for this week we were pleased to find out that Nocturnal was bringing in one of the biggest names in techno, Marco Carola. His name is well known in Miami so expect there to be a thick crowd.

Carola’s signature tech tracks are highlighted by bumpy beats that’ll keep the dance floor guessing the entire night. We’ve been a part of some of his sets before and we definitely liked. If you were thinking of heading to Space for afterhours this weekend, you may want to clear your plans for Saturday because his set will highlight the ‘Socialite Fridays’ afterhours, we definitely encourage back to back afterhour nights.

You don’t need to be a rocket scientist to figure out that Miami has one of the biggest followings when it comes to electronic dance music. We’re lucky that the club owners in the city too are music heads and hand feed us our sound fix each and every weekend. Halloween has come to an end, and now it’s time to move on. It’s not all about major holidays when it comes to nightlife and Miami, and this week proves just that as one of the best clubs in the city brings in one of the most acclaimed techno DJ/Producers in the EDM world.

This Saturday night The Techno Loft keeps bringing in A-list techno talent as Paco Osuna takes over the sound of their infamous weekly party. The Spanish electronic artist is one of the most successful hailing from his country, playing top clubs in Ibiza from a young age and releasing music that stills has a strong following today. As years have passed he’s created his own signature style that hypnotizes anyone on the dance floor and it won’t be any different this Saturday night at Club Space. We suggest checking out this DJ/Producer, but look into tickets now because it will most definitely be a big-seller.

Halloween is officially around the corner people, and we certainly hope you’ve already decided on what you’ll be wearing. One thing for sure is, even though you may not know what you’ll be doing on Halloween night, we’re here to help you out and give you the options you need to create your own Halloween night agenda. The majority of clubs and bars hosting an event on Halloween night, so we scoured through each event and have chosen what we believe are the top Halloween weekend parties are in Miami. If you don’t have any plans just yet, we suggest checking one of these out, and we guarantee you’ll have a memorable holiday this year.

Top Halloween Party in Miami
Event: Steve Aoki
Venue: Set
Date: Thursday, Oct. 29th

Who says you have to wait until the weekend to get the party started on Halloween. Sure, the primary focus of the holiday is set for Saturday, the 31st, however, everyone knows that the weekend starts on a Thursday night. Steve Aoki will be at SET delivering all the sound and making up for his absence during what was set to be a big Labor Day weekend performance there. Although he has a younger crowd, SET has their usual crowd so expect the place to be packed. It will be kind of funny to see a lot of hipster kids get denied at the door. SET doesn’t play around and you should always bring your A game.

Click here for tickets to the event.

Top Halloween Party in Miami
Event: Steve Lawler
Venue: Gryphon
Date: Thursday, Oct. 29th

This is definitely one of the most anticipated events of Halloween weekend. Not only is Gryphon a great club, but when they bring in one of the biggest names in electronic dance music, expect this place and this party to be off the wall! The one and only Steve Lawler will be in town as part of his North American tour. We’re a bit surprised that he didn’t opt for the usual South Beach or downtown Miami venue, but it’s a nice change of pace for him and the crowd that attends this party would have been the same faces regardless of the venue.

You definitely should of expected Club Space to be on our list, after all, where else can you dance until the sun comes up on downtown Miami? Well, maybe Nocturnal, but that place can’t top Club Space. For Halloween they’ll be bringing in Boris to serve up all the sound to the dressed up crowd. Boris’ sound goes really well at Space, so expect this to be yet another sold-out event at Club Space. Yes you may have to wait in line for a while to get in, especially on this night, but it’s all well worth it.

Top Halloween Party in Miami
Event: Tera Patrick
Venue: Cameo
Date: Saturday, Oct. 31st

If there’s one individual that we here at CoolJunkie are big fans of, it has to be Tera Patrick. This sexy lady hosts parties across the nation at some of the biggest nightclubs in the world, and when it came time for Halloween, it was Miami’s turn to have Tera Patrick in town. She’ll be hosting the Halloween festivities at the grand reopening of Cameo in South Beach. The nightclub was closed a few months ago, only to be bought up by the infamous Opium Group, adding yet another successful venue to their growing empire. This party will be slammed pack with fans of the venue and of the actress.

This party certainly has high expectations for itself, already claiming that it’s going to be the greatest costume party in the history of Coconut Grove. That’s a tall order, but we’ll go ahead and give them credit for have the b#@$s to label itself before the event actually happens. We have to say though, we’re pretty excited about this event. Coconut Grove is definitely one of the most popular areas in Miami to spend Halloween, and this party will definitely pack out with some of the craziest personalities decked out. We recommend checking this party out.

Top Halloween Party in Miami
Event: Jonathan Peters
Venue: Gryphon
Date: Saturday, Oct. 31st

It’s fair to say that Jonathan Peters is as big in South Florida as he is in New Jersey. That’s right people, the man himself will be back in South Florida and playing Gryphon nightclub on Halloween night. This guy always plays to a packed venue, and this night is going to be no exception. If you’re not a fan of his music, remember, you can always check out Pangaea next door, however, chances are the energy level at that venue won’t be as crazy as it will be here. Give JP a try for an hour, if it doesn’t work for you then move on to the next party. It’s Halloween, and parties are limitless!!!

As denizens of the Nightlife Universe, we all know that there are many different circumstances that will continually change when we set out into the night in search of the perfect venue and crowd to give us our much needed evening fix. Although we cant control everything that’s going to happen, the old adage of “Plan for the worst but hope for the best” comes to mind. Positive intention, planning, and a little bit of consideration before the great journey begins will surely enhance the night, and leave little chance of that dreaded failure of an evening. So what do we do to make sure things go as smoothly as possible? Make a plan! These pre-game rituals are as necessary as the cheap booze you will be guzzling down so that you don’t have to pay $7 for a jack and coke at the bar, and twice as useful when things go a bit awry and unpredictable! I submit for your approval, The Ultimate Nightlife Pre-Game Checklist!

1. Eat your favorite food – In order to create the perfect mood for the night ahead, we must indulge in the perfect fuel for the night. Pick up something that will fill your stomach with the necessary sponge to soak up that alcohol later so that your night won’t end with you face first praying to the porcelain god. Eat something that will make you smile. A good mood is what we are promoting here, and it all begins with your stomach.

2. Take a 45 minute relaxation period – Give yourself a few minutes to just settle down, collect your thoughts, and relax! Take a quick powernap or catch up with some music. Do whatever it is you do to get yourself in the zone, positive intention will carry over into the night and having no hurried or creeping thoughts will surely make for an amazing transition into the night!

3. Take the best shower you’ve ever had – Part of setting the mood for yourself and those you want to impress is by making yourself as visually stimulating as possible!
Give yourself the royal treatment, and spare any expense in the cleansing process. Also don’t forget the cologne. Not surprisingly the better you smell the more you will be attractive and remembered. Don’t go too heavy however, you don’t want to be mistaken for a French whore.

4. Dress to the 9’s – Dress accordingly for wherever you’re going, but make sure to put a few style points into your wardrobe. Weather you ride the vintage train, or are up on the latest and greatest, make sure what you’re throwing on is clean, pressed and stylish. Be yourself! Just the best version.

5. Perfectly tailored play-list – Like a good suit, the perfect soundtrack will only enhance your night out, and your mood. Don’t leave it to chance that the radio might have a great procession of songs to push the night to the next level. Create an atmosphere that will invigorate your senses and put you in the best possible mood. This will always carry over to the Venue.

6. Charge your cell phone – Keep connected. The worst thing that can happen is a dead battery at the wrong time. Don’t leave it to possibility, especially if you’ve been texting all day trying to get the plans secured to begin with.

7. Always have cash on hand – It’s always better to know what you’re getting yourself into and setting at least a semi reasonable budget before you hit the club. Nothing sobers you up like an unexpected $300 tab at the end of the night, especially if you’ve only got $200 left on the card. Avoid the embarrassment and hit the ATM before you get there. PS. It never hurts to hide a 20 somewhere on your person, incase the worst happens and you need a reserve to go to. Need a night cap? Condoms? Emergency Mickey D’s fund? Hide some cash in your sock.

8. Have a Plan B. – There is never a worse circumstance than to be all dressed up with no where to go. If you were absolutely positive that Johnny Wong’s party was going on and the bouncer tells you that he doesn’t really care who you are or who you think you know, you’re not getting in, all will seem lost. Always have an ace up your sleeve and a second, just as exciting, destination incase you can’t talk your way into that party (or even more likely the party sucks to begin with).

9. Have a designated driver – What’s the worst way to end your night out on the town after everything has gone off without a hitch? Seeing the flashing blue lights blurred so confusingly in your rearview as an officer knocks on your window and asks the dreaded question “have you been drinking tonight boy?” as your life, career, tuition, and personal humiliation flash before your eyes, you’d wish you weren’t behind the wheel. Worse yet your drunk ass could hurt someone else while you’re reaching for that iPod that fell on the floorboard and all you hear is the scream of the old lady walking across the street 1 second before you feel the thud of her walker under your tires. Do the right thing. Take a friend out to dinner and beg them to lay off the sauce. You’ll return the favor soon enough.

When DJ/Producers come to Miami to play a gig, it’s pretty fair to say that they usually frequent the same venues. For Erick Morillo and Paul van Dyk it’s Space, Deadmau5 and Roger Sanchez are usually at Mansion, and Shine likes to bring in Nick Warren and guys from the Dirtybird crew. Dirth South is a name that’s recognized throughout the electronic dance music community in South Beach, and he’s always played SET, however this weekend the Opium Group have opted to change things up for him and bring them to their largest venue on South Beach, Mansion nightclub.

This Saturday night Mansion plays host to their very special musical guest Dirty South. Every time he took over the decks at SET it’s been a sold-out show, however, we’re not entirely sure how it’ll go this weekend at Mansion. The venue is A LOT bigger than SET and the crowd on Saturday nights is definitely tough. Don’t get us wrong, this show is definitely one of the best of the weekend, and he’ll definitely draw a thick crowd, but we’re anxiously waiting to find out if he’ll pack out the place. Only one way to find out.

We recently caught a show on E! Entertainment that counted down the top ten party destinations around the world, and to our surprise Nikki Beach Club nearly took the stop spot. But we really started thinking about it, we really shouldn’t be surprised that this world renown venue made the list, we may have felt that way only because we’ve frequented it so many times. Now that we think about it, it’s definitely true. Where else can you soak in the sun, grab an amazing drink, be catered to by top-notch servers, and have the ocean and some of the best nightclubs in the nation only yards away?

When it comes to Nikki Beach Club in Miami, there’s really no comparison. Sure there’s other Nikki Beach Club’s around the world, but Miami is Miami, and when you take that into account, it really is the best. Created to be the “ultimate beach club concept that brings dining, fashion, music and entertainment together,” the concept really has come to reality. Not only does Nikki Beach Club offer an insanely impressive menu, featuring sushi, a raw bar, and salads that are one of a kind, but they also serve up what’s considered to be the best mojito in all of South Beach. That’s one hell of a compliment considering the other popular bars and restaurants in South Beach.

When it comes to their weekly parties the formatting here never fails. Starting with ‘I Love Happy Hour,’ a Thursday through Saturday event that features beachfront happy hour with parties of ten or more receiving two free drinks per person, and ending with their infamous Amazing Sunday party, a weekly that brings in the city’s socialites and elites to witness interactive entertainment, there’s never a shortage of excitement at Nikki Beach Club. And while many of the nightclubs in South Beach may book some serious entertainment for their DJ booth, Nikki Beach Club does the same, as well as having a team of amazing resident DJs that are a favorite to the weekly crowd.

If you really want unabashed entertainment in the sun, it’s all about Nikki Beach Club, where you can dine, dance and drink while the Atlantic Ocean is only yards away.

When it comes to one of the biggest name in electronic dance music, mention Tiësto to anyone who’s remotely familiar with the genre and they’ll say that it rings a bell. Since his first studio album in 2001, In My Memory, it’s been a steady rise to fame for the Dutch DJ/Producer. Now he fills in massive arenas all around the world with thousands and thousands of his die hard and loyal fans. Although many tastemakers out there may call his signature trance sound cheesy, you can’t take away the fact that the man can pack out stadiums like this…someone’s definitely listening.

Now it’s South Florida’s turn as Tiësto arrives in Miami this Saturday night to take over LIV Nightclub. He was schedule for a massive show at the Arena at the Don Taft University Center at Nova Southeastern University, however it was cancelled, probably do to poor ticket sales and an awkward time slot, 5 p.m. to 11 p.m. He's never known to have a young fan base, so we really weren't sure what they were shooting for with that show. However, Tiësto is no stranger to LIV and this Saturday night he'll more than likely slam the venue with fans spending hundreds of dollars just to be a part of one of his sets.

Instant gratification – that very concept is what our generation has craved since the invention of the Apple II computer back in the 80’s. With every new (and expensive) upgrade to our technology, the connectivity becomes a little faster between us and whatever we are looking to find out and enjoy. This concept of instant gratification has extended to the 20 something’s concept of a weekend as well. Just like the fourth-meal from Taco Bell, two days could no longer contain the amount of instant kicking back and heading out that we so viciously crave. The solution? Add Thursday (and sometimes Tuesday) to the mix. With the addition of more super-fun-time to your weekly schedule (and presumably) less work time as a result of that fun, how can your wallet possibly keep up with your Blackberry alerting, Facebook status updating 24-hour party people existence?

Demonstrate faux first class! Unless you are a part of Diddy’s entourage or have a ballin’ bling-daddy that doesn’t mind a few leaches here and there, there are a few very important things to think about when rent’s due but that beautiful blonde that caught up with you last week’s blowing up your phone for another night of debauchery. Here are some easy ways to paint the town and get KRUNK without having to hit up AMSCOT the morning after.

1.PREGAME

Originally taken from the idea of tailgating before a football game so that you don’t have to pay $10 for an 8 oz bottle of Bud Light in the stadium, bring the party to the pickup and fill the bed with some ice and hit up the 7-11! How does this translate into your evening? You’re already going to spend about $10 on cover (at least) can you really afford a $7 Jack and Coke in a dixie cup, three-quarters filled with ice? Hell NO! Hit up the nearest liquor store at about 9:30 p.m., grab that bottle of Jager or Goldschlager and make a drinking game out of the Jay Leno Show. An hour later you are at maximum party velocity and probably only need to spring for a $2.50 PBR to keep the buzz going strong and keep up appearances that you are indeed partying. **Make sure to get a DD or a cab in this case, this way you can avoid the flashing lights and live to partay another day**

2. FREE DRINK PROMOTIONS

Do you have the internet? (Yes this is a rhetorical question). In between tweeting about your plans for the night and lurking that blonde’s Facebook, run a search for “Free drink night in (insert city here).” With a little luck and some patience, you will easily find 2-3 different bars that are sponsoring “Free drinks til’ 11.” Most of the time these specials act as an incentive to get the people in early, liquor them up and than they will buy more drinks when the bell is sounded and the special ends. Take advantage of this! Is Skyy Vodka releasing coffee flavored spirits? It’ll probably be free somewhere close to where you want to end up! Take $5 with you for tips, post up at the bar and shoot those bad boys down until the stroke of 11. One hour of your time will get you 100% drunker than if you got there an hour later… and all for the price of a tip. Do this and continue with your night as planned!

3. Well-Drinks Get you just as Drunk

Okay, so the first two options are 86ed because that pesky job of yours had the nerve to keep you there until CLOSING TIME, and you’ve barely enough time to get home, get showered and get dressed before the cover goes up even HIGHER What do you do? Most liquor the same type is the same color in most cases…that means that nobody can tell that your Jack on the rocks is actually Early Morning Kentucky Bourbon that costs about 50% less per pour than Jack Daniels. Not all liquor is created equally, and there will be obvious differences (at least in the first few drinks) that you’re not sipping on Grey Goose and lime to your taste buds, but your nervous system that cages the party animal inside won’t know the difference! Just keep saying to yourself that in 20 minutes it wont matter… ** A word to the wise, do not attempt the switch if you are on a first date, picking up someone at a bar using the “Can I buy you a drink?” method, or otherwise needing to impress someone…

4. Don’t Drink so Friggin’ Much

Okay so your taste buds are discrete and refined, and will not accept anything besides Johnny Walker Black or Cristal, your inherent Baller status can not be compromised under any circumstances. What do you do? Milk that glass like it’s a golden cow representing the utmost in taste and class for as long as you possibly can! Maybe a little coherency is a good thing! Not EVERYONE at a bar (surprisingly) is as wasted as YOU were last Friday, and to some patrons a bar is a place to meet someone who you will actually want to remember in the morning. Apparently there is a whole segment of the population that weighs sobriety with a hint of relaxation and refined taste in very high esteem. Shine those shoes, dry clean the shirt and put on those reading glasses. It’s time to be yourself, and not the drunken evil twin that lives inside your liver.

Each week we try and steer you guys in the right direction as far as weekend parties go. So, for this weekend if there’s only one place that you can fit into your nightlife agenda, make sure that it’s Club Space on Saturday night, because they’re bringing in the one and only Mark Knight to serve up the sound on the Terrace. If you’re not too familiar with his Toolroom Knights label, then stop reading, jump on Beatport and start getting familiar. We’re pretty sure that his signature tech-house tracks will go over well with you, and definitely make one hell of an impact on the dance floor this Saturday night as the sun slowly begins to creep up on the downtown Miami. His recent collaboration with Underworld and D Ramirez resulted in “Downpipe,” one of the most popular tracks out on Toolroom Knights now.

Space will definitely be slammed this Saturday night, as usual, but it could definitely sell-out as well. If you’re thinking about getting tickets then now’s the time to do so, because you wouldn’t want to spend the majority of your night in line.

We here at CoolJunkie are huge fans of old-school hip-hop. We’re talking Tribe Called Quest, De La Soul and the likes of Black Sheep, who recently just played in South Beach. So when we heard that Mansion would be opening up next Tuesday night for an old-school hip-hop party, we were pretty ecstatic, however, we weren’t sure if it was actually going to happen. But, it’s all true, and it will be official next Tuesday as they welcome in one of the most respected hip-hop acts of the 90s, Brand Nubian.

On October 6th, Mansion presents their all new Tuesday party (looks like a monthly for now), ‘Rewind,’ an 80s and 90s Throwback, featuring the music of Brand Nubian to kick things off. Thanks to Mansion, and new up and coming promotion company Traffik, a lot of our favorite old-school hip-hop groups will be coming into Mansion and refreshing our memories with some of their classic tracks and performances. This is the first one-off show, but if things look good next Tuesday night, expect this party to either be more to a more prominent day of the week, or even become a weekly. You’ll be hearing a lot more from Traffik, as they look to stake their claim in the hip-hop bookings in the city. They have more surprises in store in the near future.

Shine has to be one of the best nightlife venues in South Beach, but at the same time it could also be the most underrated. The combination of lighting, sound and bookings make this place a true SoBe hotspot.

Why some clubs in Miami make it a point to have some of their best parties only during Winter Music Conference, other venues strive to have selective shows throughout the year, not on a weekly basis like Mansion, Space or Nocturnal, but selective shows that keep the crowd coming back, whether they’re back to back, or once a month. One venue that had arguably the best lineup of 2009’s Winter Music Conference is without a doubt Shine at the Shelborne, but they’ve also managed to bring in special DJ guests on a monthly basis, and even though they’re doors are always open on weekends (packing out the entire venue) it’s those selective tastemaker shows that keep the club’s persona so appealing.

If there’s one thing that stands out about Shine, it has to be the insanely attractive lighting. This has to be one of the best venues in all of Miami when it comes to their lighting. An insane barrage of lights hits the dance floor, lighting up to the beat of the DJ, courtesy of their in house VJ. The overall design of the club itself is impressive. Sometimes the VIP tables are a bit too close to the dance floor, not really giving you that extra special feel, but here everything is located strategically and carefully. The dance floor is the communal area, while the outside sections of the club offer great table service.

The venue’s the brainchild of Jon Cowan, who’s the music director and whose family owns the hotel. The man’s attention to detail and intriguing bookings are the source of Shine’s growing success. One of his biggest moves came when he teamed up with DJMag, presenting 2009’s Winter Music Conference with one of the best lineups seen since the start.

On a normal weekend at Shine you can indulge in everything from house and raggae, to hip-hop and 80s retro. As Jon Cowan puts it best, “We want our music format to be open but most of all, based on fun, or relaxing depending on where you are. Most important something everyone can enjoy.” If this were the philosophy of every club-owner, we’d definitely have all across South Beach that everyone could enjoy.
