Over 3,000 people attended the AXE Unlimited Graduation Party, the fourth yearly large-scale event by the leading brand in men’s deodorant and fragrances.
The event took place at no other than the Coliseo de Puerto Rico, the largest arena in the whole Caribbean region, and the first event of this nature to be celebrated here. The space inside was transformed into a huge university campus-like atmosphere, in which each classroom was used to teach erotic and sensual courses.
The event started at 8:00 p.m. with a “Warm-Up Party” at the exterior surroundings of the Coliseum, which had a huge stage and promotional giveaways. Even though the warm-up started outside, I already had warmed up at the press cocktail earlier before. The doors opened at around 9:00 p.m. for the anxious multitude waiting outside.
As part of the promotional giveaways, we were given an “AXEclicker”, a gadget used for counting people, and used on the new AXE television commercial in which Nick Lachey (yeah, the former Jessica Simpson hubbie) uses it to click on every hot chick he saw at a bar. It was a pretty fun and interesting thing to do… click on every hot girl you see and see how many at the end of the night. I started working on my clicks, up until the Graduation Ceremony, where all the AXE models (I mean…teachers) walked down the aisle to the typical graduation music. As I watched all these teachers pass by, I had clicked so many times that my clicker went on tilt and lost count.
Meanwhile, as I tried to regain my breath for so many clicking, the music started again with the sounds of house dj John Ender Rios and hip-hop turntablist DJ Metro. Also, rock cover band Algarete had all the grads partying. The main act of the night was in charge of reggaeton favorite Hector “El Father”, who sang all the well-known top billboard reggaeton hits along with invited artist Jomo (dejale caer to’ el peso). While they played, I was busy jumping up from the dozen damn firecrackers that they decided to play with during his act.
Well, a few Medalla Light beers, firecrackers, schoolbus horns, and a thousand clicks later, the party ended with the Coliseum people turning the lights totally on, and saying thanks for being here… now get the hell out. It didn’t matter much, since this was definitely the best damn graduation party I’ve ever attend, and I have my diploma to prove it.
Thanks to Beba Valdez for her attentions towards our Cooljunkie staff during the night.
