CJ Memorial Day Weekend Party Picks

Memorial Day weekend in Miami is one of a kind. While on most weekends the sounds of electronic dance music seem to rule the dance floors all across downtown Miami and South Beach, this weekend it’s all about hip hop. Whether it’s a very special host, or even performances by some of the genres best, 75% of the time the parties of hip hop oriented, and we love that! In order to make life a little easier for you we’ve narrowed down the lengthy list of events to what we believe are the ones that should definitely be on your agenda.

Event: South Beach Jump-Off
Venue: Mansion
Date: Thursday, May 21st

In Miami we like to think of Thursday night as part of the weekend. That’s why a lot of these events are kicked off this Thursday night, and one that we think is going to be one of best events in Miami for Memorial Day weekend, the South Beach Jump-Off at Mansion. Hosted by hip hop heavyweights Fat Joe and Trick Daddy, this party is definitely going to offer all the hip hop heads in the city a little bit of the South, with a good taste from NY. Not to mention, that the man behind the decks on this night will be Miami’s own DJ Khaled. Expect greatness people!

Event: GS Boyz
Venue: SOBE Live
Date: Friday, May 22nd

If there’s going to be a weekend in Miami when hip hop rules, than you better be sure that SoBe Live in South Beach is definitely going to be a party of it. Having one of the best sound systems that money can buy in the city, SoBe Live is bringing in the GS Boys to perform live. But it doesn’t end there. Ever heard of a ‘stanky leg’ competition? Well, don’t feel left out because we haven’t either. Sounds like it’s for the ladies, and we certainly hope we’re right, and the winner of the competition walks away with a cool $1k in cash! And ladies…you drink free until midnight.

Here’s an event for everyone who’s trying to get away from the ghetto fabulous sounds that rule the Beach this weekend. No matter the list that we put together for our ‘Best Ofs,’ there’s always a slot for one of the electronic dance music clubs in the nation. This Saturday night Club Space opens up their legendary Terrace at 11 p.m. once again, and to celebrate the weekend they’re bringing in a slew of some of their best residents to date, including Patrick M., Louis Puig and Lou Flores. If hip hop isn’t your thing, than this is your safe haven for the weekend.

Here’s another event that you’ll enjoy if hip hop isn’t your sound of choice. The best alternative nightclub in all of Miami, The Vagabond, is having another special series of their Saturday weekly, Back Door Bamby, with the sounds of their infamous residents Ray Milian, Ryan Evans, Carmel Ophir and A-Train. And yes…the Sex Kittens will definitely be in attendance as usual along with their misfits. If it’s a crazy ass party with a wild theme that you’re looking for, then you’ll definitely find it at The Vagabond this Saturday night. Get there at 10 p.m. and start downing the complimentary Belvedere vodka cocktails for a really good night.

Event: Desyn Masiello
Venue: Gryphon
Date: Saturday, May 23rd

Gryphon’s got a pretty special surprise in store for all fans of EDM. This Saturday night they’re bringing in SOS’s own Desyn Masiello to serve up all the sound. Desyn really tore up his sets during Winter Music Conference, so we’re pretty stoked to see that he’s back in the area, especially on a three-day weekend. Expect his set to run late and the dance floor to keep moving all night long. It’s gonna be a good one.

Event: ATL vs. MIA
Venue: Mansion
Date: Sunday, May 24th

There’s nothing like having two of the biggest cities in the rap game go toe to toe, and that’s exactly what’s happening this Sunday night at Mansion when they present ATL vs. MIA. Hosted by the ATL’s very own Young Jeezy, and Miami hip hop kingpin Rick Ross, this special event features the sounds of DJ Khaled, Ace Hood, Bulletproof, Cipha Sounds and Christon. Although the club has a pretty big hip hop event just a few days prior, we think that this one’s going to take the cake when you match them up. But who will win the battle between the cities? Miami, of course!

Event: Busta Rhymes
Venue: INK Nightclub
Date: Sunday, May 24th

Ink Nightclub may not always show up on our radar of ‘Best Ofs,’ but when it comes to Memorial Day weekend’s best parties in Miami, they nearly topped our list. This Sunday night they’re delivering one of the best musical acts that the weekend has to offer, as they bringing Busta Rhymes for a very special live performance! Now, tickets may seem a little steep, but remember, it’s a hip hop weekend in Miami, so these things will be going at an alarming rate. Plus, it’s one of the best MCs of all time! Get your tickets now or never.

Event: Diddy
Venue: Karu & Y Ultra Lounge
Date: Sunday, May 24th

If you think back, when Diddy started getting infatuated with this city, he said it was “his.” Well, although he’s been hanging out a bit too much in Las Vegas recently, he’s back this weekend to host the best party that the city has to offer at Karu & Y Ultra Lounge. If Diddy’s at a party, then you know it’s going off. I don’t really think that the man likes to hang out at low-par venues with a crowd that rather sit and drink than stand and dance. This party will have the Diddy touch to it, so expect lots of drinks to be flowing, the music to be blaring, and beautiful women all around.
