Everyone knows that Miami’s claim to fame is its nightlife. All along the Beach, downtown, and Coconut Grove there are havens of entertainment where people leave the worries of the nine to five at the door and jam until the sun comes up. But there is one staple to the city. One venue that’s got history. One club that’s truly put Miami on the map and revolutionized club culture in America. Space Nightclub.
The Space family and Cooljunkie.com are proud to be presenting a uniquely special event this Saturday; "142 Revisited," a one-time event that will bring about a nostalgic blast to the past for thousands this saturday night, commemorating the original Club Space that started it all.
The original Space, or ‘old’ Space as many refer to it as, was located at 142 NE 11St. The supreme EAW Avalon sound system, low ceilings and dark vibe made the venue a DJ’s dream. Not to mention that it was one of a kind in the country.
“I loved the space from the moment I saw it because I’d seen spaces like that in other places in the world,” says resident DJ Oscar G. “But there was nothing near, not even in this country, to a warehouse space like that.”
In the beginning it was all an idea. A crazy idea to most at the time, but in the end it would translate to pure genius. Who would have ever thought to put a nightclub in the hood? Luis Puig would of. After steadying his background in the nightlife industry, Puig then decided to move his concepts over to downtown, an area that is known now for its parties on 11 St., but at the time was a desolate area of warehouses and vagabonds. It was definitely a risky move, but it was a needed risk that eventually helps put Miami on the map.
“I remember going Space Ibiza, which has no relation to Space Miami,” says Emi Guerra, Event Director for Space. "The owner sat down with me and the first thing he says to me is 'I heard you guys got a great sound system down there.’ Word got around pretty quick and it wasn’t us that was spreading the word, it was the DJs.”
With original residents Oscar G., Ivano Bellini, Edgar V., Roland and Radamas providing all of the sound, this is an event that can’t be missed.
To celebrate this special event, the Space and CoolJunkie family are inviting everyone to an open bar and free admission until 1AM. Sign up on the Guest List now to enjoy this one time unique social gathering.
