Hey GAT Junkies!

By now, we all know that the hottest party on a Tuesday night is at Cosplay at Sushi Samba. Don’t think so? Tell that to the people that wait outside patiently for people to leave so they can get into this maxcap party. On Tuesday nights, this restaurant turns into a costume crazed dance party, with geishas on top of tables, Circ X Dancers in their wild theatrics and a live DJ.

Cosplay a year ago

This week they are celebrating their one year anniversary with their weekly costume contest giving out a MAJOR grand prize to the best costume of a $1000 cash prize. The party gets going around 11:00 p.m. and judging traditionally takes place after midnight, but I’d make sure I am there by 10:30 the latest. 21+, no cover – and this week, slap on your costume and join in.

Now for those of you who have been wondering where the indie has been, a new party starts this Thursday with “Miami’s one and only indiepop night”. The place is on 6646 Collins Ave in Miami Beach, next door to the 24 hour pizza place, Venezia Pizza. Nice. No cover, no fuss, lots of parking? Sounds like something I need to check out.

Great news for those of you that were like me and missed the Bodies: The Exhibit. This time it makes a stop in Ft. Lauderdale, the ticket price is $24 and its here from October 27, 2007 through February 17, 2008. I may go Halloween. Nothing beats a human body split open in two at dark on Halloween night.

Cupcakes & Sidekick

Last week’s Sidekick LX Party was filled with hip kids sipping on snow cones, dancing by the pool and drinking cocktails made by Motley Bird and Ecstasy Vodka. With all the candy stations and cupcakes, guest were sure to have a sugar rush.

It was too hot for us to sit by pool side, so most of the time I spent inside the VIP Lounge and in the library inside the hotel. Check here for the gallery of that night.

The new Sidekick LX makes it's debut October 24th, 2007.

But the best event I had was a surprise peek at Ikea. Having had missed the party and knowing the opening would be too crazy, my honey and I were in the area and on Sunday night, we decided to drive by. Not knowing if the place would be open or not, if parking was going to be an issue and if it was going to be hideously packed, we just went.

We drove by the temporary parking way by the arena in front of Saw Grass Mills, then on the main street with all the orange cones, signs and cops, and finally right into the parking inside Ikea itself!

We walked in an hour prior to its closing, so we had enough time to roam. Already having been to several Ikeas in the country, I knew what it would look like but I just wanted to see OUR very own here in South Florida.

After the hop, skip and a jump on both floors, we left with empty hands. The lines were ridiculously long. Some people were there for hours, that I even saw one sleeping on a box. The smell of the cinnamon buns were killing me, but realizing that I can now go a few minutes up north to the big blue box with yellow letters, I can wait.

Mark on your calendars: The return of Barefoot at Oasis at the Mandarin Oriental. There’s a place to leave your shoes, so you can walk around the Mandarin Beach, VIP beds, bars, a special dim sum menu to order snacks, sexy music and a fantastic view of the downtown Miami skyline at sunset. The Friday evening happy hour starts November 2nd at 6:00 PM. Valet parking.
