Hello Junkies & Happy Halloween!

This weekend was all about the Halloween costume parties from the Halloween Ball at Vizcaya to the very wild Heaven & Hell at Space. But first there was art.

Robot Art

Last week I had the pleasure of meeting John Vale a tattoo shop owner and artist José Carrera of OchoPlacas Gallery 138 Inc.(2633-A NW 20th Street, Miami) at their latest exhibit, “I Heart Robots”. The show was a success with several pieces selling that same night.

This space reminded me of a basement in the Lower East Side in NYC, instead it was in the heart of Miami on a second floor warehouse. In spite of the AC running all night, the space was uncomfortably warm. It could have been the spot lights on the art but the body heat from all the people might have been the culprit.

It seemed in order to be at this event you had to have some kind of body modification; weather it was a piercing or skin ink. Hot boys with necks and arms filled with ink as well as gorgeous ladies with beautiful work on their legs, arms and backs enjoyed the cold corquetas (croquets), papa rellenas (potato balls filled with meat), cocktails, and their spoken language was spanglish.

Before I went out to the parties on my agenda this past weekend, we headed out to the Vans Exhibit at the Anitkulture Gallery. The curator of the gallery did justice to the small space where the walls were skies and electric poles and wires ran across the room and street and bus signs in strategic locations. Appropriately the music was classic hip hop by DJ KeenOne who set the underground mood in the Miami street atmosphere.

After a chat with Arnold aka AS1 (his Bass Stomper Vans were incredible), we decided to check out the Cooler Exhibit at the Damian B Gallery down the block. To our surprise the place was crowded with artsy folks, cocktails, food and lots of painted fridges. There were several artists there like Alissa Christine, Raymond Gems Adrian (who also had artwork at the VANS exhibit) and Alex Yanes, all who had large and mini refrigerators up for grabs.

Our 1957 Prom Photo

After an hour in the Wynwood District, I had to run to the 1957 Prom at Blink Studios on South Beach. My dress up was a rebel girl with a dash of Miss Bettie Page. The event was really cute, with tons of balloons in white and baby blue, stars, round tables and chairs, plus a Polaroid chic when you first come in. There was a live band, a DJ spinning 50s and a good 70 percent in 50s prom gear.

Somehow, Willy Wonka, Dick-In-A-Box and Robert Palmer and his girls got in but we all had fun until.....the city came in and shut the place down. And just when I got my first Mojito! Oh well....at least I have a Polaroid to keep the memories alive.

On Halloween, if you want to walk the streets, from 4 - 7 pm, Miracle Mike is a safe place for you and the kids. At Coco Walk the night comes at you a bit more grown up with crazy costumes, wild disguises and parties at restaurants, bars, and clubs. Lincoln Road is also a fun place to either take a stroll or have dinner and watch all the crazies of the night. All free, all fun, all unique. Start early around 7 pm, it gets happening by 9 pm and it all ends around midnight.

But some of you love to club it out and on Halloween you get to get dressed in your sexies. Some of your choices: Circa 28 will have The Haunted Mezeneen, Karu & Y will have the ladies of Playboy with “The Ghouls Next Door”, Saints and Sinners at The Fifth, the official after party of Fall Out Boy at Cameo for the Rock of Horror party, have your Eyes Wide Shut at SET, so bring your masks and play naughty, The Forge has “Beverly Hills Pajama Party” with another Playmate, Brande Roderick and so much more. Check our listings.

Okay Junkies, be safe, have fun!
