Hola mi gente!

The heat is on baby. While the weather makes my hair damp and my skin sticky, the Miami Heat gives me the shivers during the Finals.

But the Heat’s not the only sport on my mind. This season I am focused on the World Cup. Even Sunday as we waited for our table for a Fathers Day dinner, we found ourselves at the bar watching the game with excitement and anticipation.

Happily my nights are not taken up by The Cup or basketball finals. I still go out as usual finding new music, new parties and new DJs to keep my night life fresh.

Monday night I decided to finally check out Back Door Bamby at Snatch. Since their move from Crobar (which is closed for renovations), I have not returned to my beloved BDB. My eyes were happy to see that Miss Bamby is still her naughty self in this small but very chic rock bar that sits below Suite.

Drag queens, a sexy crowd, fun music and watching people ride the bull made it feel like the old gal still has tricks up her sleeve. I look forward to Bamby turning ten this July 3rd (jot that down in your calendars) with Little Louis Vega and ultra special guest, Mini Kill and Mini Motley Crew live in concert.

Back Door Bamby

The Michigan boys of Whirlwind Heat made a stop at Studio A during their US tour on Thursday night for the Plastik Fantastik party. Cool band and cute boys. Check out the trio on their official website: whirlwindheat.com for track samples and tour info.

On Saturday night a really impressive British artist named Jamie Lidell won my heart at Poplife’s big 7 year anniversary. This amazing musician has so much talent that I personally cannot even begin to tell you in my modest words. This guy is truly - by definition of the word – amazing.

The show was held in the courtyard, he dressed in his signature eye wear and a silk robe and the ending to his show was the best since Diana Ross in Central Park. Rain came down fast but he kept playing while fans assisted in covering his equipment. What a night! Bookmark jamielidell.com and add this one to your mp3.

Are you tired of the same ol’ music at the clubs? Try open format (mix, mash fun with classics, b-sides and one hit wonders). Several DJs out there bring it to the dance floors, but few have real skills to blend track to track and at the same time keep the dance floor alive with dancing and lip-syncing.

Induce at Poplife/td>

First up is my classic funk and RnB master, Induce who spins at Poplife in the red velvet room. His style is by far one of my favorites. A true DJ, this tall white boy has soul and his knowledge of music that each week there is something new.

The second on decks is Gunars. Mixing classics in pop, hip hop and house on Tuesdays at RokBar and Saturdays at Pawn Shop, this DJ always has a full dance floor. And last but not least, Diaga takes it freestyle, house and rock. His mash ups can be heard Saturdays at a packed house at Cafeteria.

New in my MP3 player

Jamie Lidell – Muddlin Gear (November 2000). Gotta catch up with this great one, so start with the first LP.
