Hola!

In less than 3 weeks, the Magic City will be invaded by all things VMA (Video Music Awards). The buzz I hear is who is requesting which venues and who will be on the infamous guest list to these events. From Nocturnal to Rokbar, it’s all about who’s party is going to be remembered (or not, depending on how much fun you had) after it’s over.

The phone calls are starting to come in from friends who want to party on the beach for the Big Event and crash at our place. It’s going to be another hot and crazy August.

Living on the beach tends to make you the favorite friend and/or family member to everyone you know. Almost every other weekend, you will have some kind of house guest becoming the unofficial guide to South Florida.

One place I’d just added to my ‘places to visit’ is Gigi’s restaurant, located near The Design District in Miami. Back in July, we attended the successful opening and enjoyed drink and finger food, but last week, my partner and I sat down for an intimate dinner during twilight.

Gigi’s Restaurant

A very sexy Gigi Ganatra greeted us at the door and soon we were escorted to our seats by the host. We were there early enough to beat the evening rush so I picked the corner setting under the huge mirror, where I could people watch and talk in private.

Our wonderful waitress recommended the Moules Frites as a starter. She couldn’t have been more correct. Delicious! Turns out this is one of the popular dishes of this bistro, but don’t take my world for it, go try it.

And at $10 you get an enormous bowl of muscles in white wine and tarragon sauce with fries on the side - it’s a great starter. My tip: Dip the fries into the sauce and make them a little more scrumptious.

My ‘places to visit’ book includes Wasabi, a karaoke party held at Sushi Samba on Tuesday nights. I’ve mentioned it here before and for good reason. You never know who’s going to show up and what their going to sing.

Just last week Jamie Foxx rocked the mic with his rendition of Super Freak. Gotta love this city!

If your guests are into something more artsy and want to be away from the beach craze, you can try The District Restaurant Lounge with different events during the week. Live poetry by local and national artist with chill urban sounds can be experienced on the appropriately called Mellow Mondays.

And on Wednesdays, the big Winedown offers an evening of live jazz and join that with a great bottle of wine for just $15. Great deal.

But the South Beach experience must include a day of shopping. From the small quaint shops on Lincoln Road to the hidden gems in the chic hotels, amazing one of kind garments and unique accessories are waiting to be taken home by you.

But a little north from the beach, the opulent Bal Harbour Shops has it all under one roof and that includes on of my favorite designers, Marc Jacobs. This store carries the prêt-à-porter collection, accessories, Men’s and shoes. MJ shoes! That alone is worth the trip.
