Welcome back!

What a weekend! I decided to be on vacation and enjoy this holiday in several ways.

No, I didn’t have a barbeque, nor did I go to a pool party or a mega bash, but I did take it easier than ever because the holiday was created as a day off for the "working man", so this semi-working woman did just that.

Granted, I did start my week on Tuesday night at the Harold Golen Gallery reception exclusively for members of Gen Art for the Collectors Circle event and a few of his closest friends. A few artist were there speaking of their works which is always great because if you didn’t know how, what or why the art you are looking at is what it is; you had a chance to hear them speak of what inspired them and get your chance to ask questions.

the Harold Golen Gallery

It is one of the most exciting and interesting galleries here in Miami right now with some of the best lowbrow art in the country. It’s like the pages of Juxtapose Magazine coming to life. You can stop by and purchase boxed cards, t-shirts and books. So if you are looking for that unique gift for you or your artsy friend, this place has it all and more for you. Harold Golen Gallery is located at: 2921 N.W. 6th Avenue in the Wynwood Art District.

The other thing I did before the weekend arrived was the PS 14 Wednesday night party for the unofficial “Best Underground BBQ” and dancing. Ladies drink free till midnight so that was perfect for us girls, but this night was the once a month, Lady Arm Wrestling Contest. You have no idea what you are missing when you see girls play hard.

One girl showed up in spandex and boxing gear, but with her hunger and all of 80 pounds wet, lost in the first round in under a second. By the end of the contest, the two girl left were actually sisters who took a while to take each other down. After that battle, it was wings, beer and some dancing. Good times. Hey, no cover, cheap drinks and good music? Wednesdays are never boring at PS 14.

Then Thursday was La Covacha, excuse me, I mean The Cove out back by the parking lot turned club, to see and hear DJ Tocadisco. Now, I love a few of his remixes and even one of my favorite tracks is “Nobody Knows Like’s The Records That I Play”, but his style of DJing threw me out of the loop. It was all over the place but at the same time didn’t take me anywhere. But that didn’t matter to the crowd who danced in the heat of the night (it was 90 degrees when I parked at midnight).

But this party reminded me, South Americans, and mostly the Colombians know how to party!

This couldn’t be more obvious at the Donald Glaude event on Sunday over at Pawn Shop. It started out slow, but when it was packed, the crowd was mostly young Latin American kids, dancing and having fun. Most of the crowd is dressed ready to dance all night with the sneakers and sunglasses, the uniform of the hard core house dancers who plan on doing it till dawn. I made it till 3:30 am which was still going on hard.

But I took off on Monday night to watch Justin Timberlake on HBO. My honey set up the food, I chilled the champagne and we watched the two hour show in amaze. After all, it was HDTV and I have been hooked. The music, the views, the performance was flawless. If you haven’t seen it and you like music, find a friend who has HBO/HD and watch it on the next airing which will be September 6th, at 8:30 PM here on the East.

Alan T- Work It Bitch.

Yes, honey, the same Alan T. That voice is not only for dismissing you at the door with his megaphone, but he lays down some of the fiercest vocals for house music. WORK!

Weekly Picks

Wednesday – VooDoo Lounge is the place to be at on Wednesdays. Ladies, it’s free drinks and entrance so come out and enjoy. Guys are $10 before midnight and $20 after. Music is pretty good, with a mix of rock, hip hop and radios best. VooDoo is located at 111 SW 2nd Ave. 21+ a must.

Thursday – The Standard Hotel Lobby is sexy cool with a hip crowd and mellow sounds from the live DJ spinning. Show up early and get a bite to eat at the restaurant, have cocktails by the bar or just sit back on one of the several plush couches and chill. It’s a very calm atmosphere for mackin’ and relaxin’, so don’t expect to see or hear a crazy rah rah crowd.

Friday – Instead of going to an indoor club, try an outdoor venue to unwind and dance the night away. The Rooftop Lounge on the roof top of Town House Hotel is the joint with views of the Miami Beach sky. Kick off the weekend on one of their many waterbeds or dance to house music while you sip on the drink specials from 9 pm to 11 pm. Town House Hotel on located on 20th Street, east of Collins. Never a cover, but always 21+.
