Back in the Hollywood noir of memory, it was Devil in a Blue Dress. Today, it is definitely a Mohawk in Members Only. BoJesse’s couture aptly defined the scene at Nacional on the evening of Saturday, October 2 as he pulled off another unlikely mix where metropolitan chic meets post-punk renegade -- the opening night of his new promo, “InFAMOUS“. Imagine the babies being made, the spawn of an unholy but extremely cool union.

We might wish for beautiful women, resplendent in venery, thrusting their lithe bodies in tantric synchronicity to an immediate, commanding funk. We might look for tall men, aggressive and curious, desiring and desirable.
Fortunately, our brave leader BoJesse delivered all of this and more to the great unwashed masses of Hollywood humanity before they stumbled home, munching on mamacita’s three dollar street-dogs.
With the seamless aplomb of a mad yet benign alchemist, he attempted to turn lead into gold. If we were not able to indulge in the sheer genius of this moment, surely it was some weakness in our own character that prevented us from climax.

Nacional itself, sepia toned and splendid, is a near perfect lounge for a night of high-toned debauchery. The Cubano spice is a nice counterpoint to the often too serious (and sometimes downright pretentious) LA contempo architecture of latter-day ubiquity.
However, if one could find fault in this night of revelry, we would have to consider the limits of the space where we gathered in tribal frenzy; we were unable to rouse ourselves to pack the too small dance floor.
A larger, more open space would generally be better for one of BoJesse’s bacchanalian soirées. Therein lies the rub. In this respect, size does matter, and let’s face it, BoJesse is a large man (or so we’ve heard) for such a petite space.
Still, we wouldn’t recommend missing even one of BoJesse’s events, for we’d find that in the end of all things, we’d be the lesser for it.
UPDATE! The night has now spilled over into next-door Paladar to increase the dance-floor space.
