On Saturday July 1st, In Centric Entertainment, in association with Mandalay Integrated Media Entertainment, have announced an unprecedented lineup of national Soul, R& B and hip hop artists to perform at West Palm Beach’s Meyer Amphitheater for the inaugural “Soul-full Saturday”.
The event is to be headlined by Rock and Roll Hall of Fame soul legend Al Green, whose recent album Everything’s OK was released earlier this year. “The new disc is a convincing return to the smooth, silky, sexy sound of his best work and have been hailed as the Second Coming of a soul legend” touted Rolling Stone Magazine.
The Reverend is sure to blow the crowd away with his unmistakable voice and loved classics that will take the audience back to the late seventies and eighties with hits such as “Let’s stay Together’ and ‘Tired of Being Alone’ as well as a selection from the new album.
Sharing the stage with Al Green is a women who has often been called the ‘mother of hip hop’ as well as ‘ the bona fide queen of urban sophistication’, Ms. Lauryn Hill. Hill will give the crowd hits they long to hear such as ‘Lost Ones’, ‘Doo Wop (That Thing)’ and ‘Everything is Everything’. Ms. Hill will perform an acoustic set that will feature tracks from her Five-Time Grammy award winning album ‘The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill’ and her most recently released album MTV Unplugged No. 2.0.
Twelve-time Grammy nominee, India Arie will move the audience with her heartfelt lyrics and incredible voice that epitomizes the feeling of soulful. The celebrated singer has just been nominated for Best R&B Female Artist again at the 2006 BET Television Awards. She previously won in the same category at BET’s 2003 awards. The 6th Annual BET Awards will air live on Tuesday, June 27th at Los Angeles’ Kodak Theater, which is also the official in-store release day for Arie’s long-awaited new album release, Testimony: Vol. 1, Life & Relationship.
And as if that was not enough star power… yet another Grammy Winning band The Roots, known for their ‘Jazzy, non-pop Hip Hop’ will rock the Meyer Amphitheater with hits from their previous seven albums and tracks from their new album to be released on August 29, Game Theory. The album will be their first on Def Jam Recordings, who The Roots signed with in late 2005.
Miami Heat’s superstar, DJ Irie, will open the festival and maintain the energy between performances.
The first live act to open is Against The Girl, represented by Miami based talent agency Julius Talent, the same agency that represents Mos Def and Ms. Lauryn Hill. The second name to warm up the crowd at, what is expected to be a sold out event, is a rock band with heavy influences in soul, funk and reggae, Politicks. Aptly named considering their hometown is Washington D.C. Politicks will join the Heineken Soulful Tour this fall, which features other national acts.
Tickets for the July 1 event start at $45 and are available for sale at several locations in the area including; Rhythm Clothiers (Cityplace), Vendome (Clematis Street), Bespoke (Downtown at the Gardens), Shortcuts (Palm Beach Mall), DADA (Delray), Movies, Music, and More (West Palm Beach).
