5 Drinking Games for the 4th of July
June 30, 2009 1:34 PM
by Marcos Colón

Ever since the creation of competitive sports and games, young Americans all across the country have been able to change certain rules or aspects of the said games in order to include alcohol. Yes, like it or not, drinking games are a strong part of our celebrations and weekends. Whether it’s Christmas, Thanksgiving, New Year’s or Hanukah, you can rest assure that there are specific drinking games for them. With the 4th of July just around the corner, we’ve decided that our national day of independence should also have some drinking games, after all, it is one of the biggest party weekends that our nation has. So without further ado, we give you 5 Drinking Games for the 4th of July. You’ll notice that many of these seem familiar, but we’ve tweaked each one to give them a more patriotic feel.

4th of July Drinking Game
American Flag Beer Pong

What you’ll need: 35 Cups (15 Red, 11 White, 9 Blue) 2 Ping Pong Balls, 1 large table

How it works: Ever played beer pong before? Of course you have. Although it’s primarily associated with frat boys and sloppy college girls, this is one game that the whole family can enjoy…21-years of age and over of course. Instead of sticking to the traditional six to 10 cup triangle, use the red, white and blue cups to create the image of the American flag. There should be five rows of seven cups:

Row 1: First three cups should be blue, and the rest lined up should be red.
Row 2: First three cups should be blue, and the rest lined up should be white.
Row 3: First three cups should be blue, and the rest lined up should be red.
Row 4: All white cups
Row 5: All red cups

Rules: Basically like beer pong, only you get absolutely no re-racks, and if you and your partner each make a cup, the other team still gets to shoot. You do not get the balls back because on a hot streak one team could definitely dehydrate, and we’re all about hydration on the 4th of July. Jumping from the traditional 10 cups to 35 should definitely keep you and your partner busy for a while, and you’re guaranteed to be the life of the party once you finish up your first game.

4th of July Drinking Game
The Political Dart Board

What you’ll need: 1 Dartboard, Various Profile Pictures of Political Figures and a ton of beer and liquor

How it works: This one should definitely be interesting and spark up quite the heated debate and conversations at the party. For the game, basically hang up the dartboard anywhere you’d like inside or outside of the house. Ten participants can each have a picture of a political figure or pundit that they despise. When one person is up, they simply tape that picture to the dartboard and have four shots at their face. We expect there to be many Bush, O’Reilly, Cheney, and maybe even Obama pictures up.

Rules: If you hit the lips you chug a beer. If you hit the nose, you can pick anyone to chug a beer. If you hit the left eye, you take a shot of liquor. If you hit the right eye, you get to pick who takes the shot of liquor. Easy, right? Just hope that you’re aim’s dead-on for this one.

4th of July Drinking Game
Fireworks In The Sky – DRINK!

What you’ll need: Fireworks…and a shit ton of liquor or beer.

How it works: This one’s pretty damn easy. Just get those fireworks ready to roll, and you don’t have to wait until it gets dark. Every single time that you hear or see a firework go off, you must finish off your drink. So if you happened to have a full beer in your hand, a shot of tequila, or even a pitcher of sangria, tough luck, prepare to chug.

Rules: Now I know what you’re thinking from the ‘How it Works’ description, “Fireworks go off all day, we’ll be hammered by 2PM.” That’s why you start this game off early. It’s something that continues throughout the day. So if you see your friend grabbing a few beers from the fridge, or pouring a shot for someone else, quickly go outside and set one off. It’s a hell of a prank, and you’ll be sure to get yours as well.

4th of July Drinking Game
The 50 State Keg Stand

What you’ll need: A keg of ‘American’ beer and a few friends.

How it works: I think you can pretty much get the gyst of this one after you read the name to yourself a few times. Have that cold get of beer ready, and get a couple of your buddies to join along, because they have some lifting to do. Here’s how it goes…there are teams of twos. One person goes up to bat for the keg stand while their partner holds them up. Now, a person from a different team stands by and once the keg stand begins, they have to name as many of the 50 states as they can, but once they stutter or take longer than two seconds, the keg stand ends.

Rules: You have to be strict with the timing. Once slip, and the person has to come down from the stand. Also, absolutely no songs aloud. Yes, we’re talking about the ones that they taught you in grade school to remember every state. The final team that is standing will be the winners. You’ll see how everyone will begin to drop like flies.

4th of July Drinking Game
Call the Coin

What you’ll need: A dime, nickel, penny and quarter. A shot glass and a bottle of liquor or cans of beer.

How it works: This is a great game to get newcomers buzzed and in the right frame of mind as the rest of the party. This game is played exactly how ‘Quarters’ is, only with the other coins involved as well. Simply fill four shot glasses with beer or liquor (we suggest beer and making the last one in the line liquor because it can get really sloppy using only liquor) and line them up with one of the four coins by each. It’s one on one, so grab someone to play with you. As soon as the time starts, each person must bounce one of the coins into the coinciding shot glass and once it’s in, drink up. The first person to go down the line first wins.

Rules: Prior to each shot the shooter must say the name of the president on the coin five times fast. No slip-ups or stuttering allowed, or you have to start over again.
