After much thought and careful consideration, CoolJunkie sat sown with local Ford stylist and ex Ocean Drive Fashion Associate Nicole Tafur. We filtered through the multiple trends for spring and found the Top 9 for 2009, most fitting for a Miami lifestyle. Below are the top picks combined with a few of Nicole’s thoughts on each.

Jumpsuits: This is a staple design in Stella McCartney’s collections and one she has perfected. This season more and more designers have picked up on the trend and it’s all over the runways from Derek Lam to Proenza Schouler. These one-piece ensembles can be made in soft billowing fabrics with wide legs or they can become more streamline with a skinny, tapered leg. They should be bought in neutral tones, blacks or bright colors. To make the appearance of a one-piece/jumpsuit yourself wear all one color. By doing this you are creating a monochromatic look, but be sure to define your waist so as not to get lost in your outfit.

Neutrals: This is a classic. Derek Lam shows this relaxed yet polished look best. Must haves are loose pants with pockets, wrapped shirts and dresses in silks and cottons. Calvin Klien is another example of simplicity with neutrals, but he keeps them more structured and refined. This is great trend to go out and by basics for your closet that you will wear forever.

Polka Dots: The spotted print is back in any version there is - oversized, mini, abstract or screen print. The all American designer Michael Kors filled his runway with shapes and bright colors, but made the most of the dot. Think 50’s picnic with A-line skirts and bustier, he even added a “Yellow Polka Dot Bikini.” Jaeger London, a brilliant British import, and John Galliano have original polka dot prints in their collections that catch the attention of elegant eveningwear.

Mini Hemlines: This is a trend that Heidi Klum does best, not to mention all the time. It’s all about the Mod 60’s and works great with our Polka Dots trend. Matthew Williamson’s Spring 2009 collection is filled with powerhouse mini’s, from tight to loose. He mixes loads of bright thigh-high skirts with barley-there dresses that float down the runway. Emanual Ungaro’s runway has minis by the millions, but he shows a more sophisticated dress that wraps around the body. However your mini fits, it’s perfect for Miami weather.

Sherbet Colors: Think of your favorite color and then mix it with milk; this would give the color pallet that is most popular for Spring/Summer. These feminine colors covered the clothes at Luella. She put the colors in all her prints and mixed them together, this combined with some stunning solids created an array of ladylike designs. At Chloe, they used the “sherbet colors” and mixed them with neutral tons such as nude and bronze. Both designers kept a very girly feel as runways were filled with frills, ruffles and bows. This is definitely a trend to follow.

Boho Femme: No other trend is more perfect for our sweltering Miami heat and beautiful beaches. The queen of prints, Diane Von Furstenberg, had an array of the Boho Femme attire. She kept the theme going when models appeared wearing bohemian style head-pieces that were just as gorgeous as the designs. Gucci was another bold named house that showed embellished tunics with flowing fabrics, exposing skin in all the right places and giving a feeling of freedom.

Bold Shoulders: There has been a considerable amount of focus on the shoulder this season. Viktor & Rolf, Balmain, Halston, Malandrino, Dolce & Gabbana are just s few of the designers in on the trend. All these designers have taken the focus and creativity of the shoulder to new heights ;) We are seeing pointed, raised, rounded and squared shoulders, some shoulders sweep to the side and others curve around the neck. The bold shoulder is evident in both the everyday blazer and the elegant evening gown.

Tie Dye: Another Miami friendly trend. This easy-to-create technique is now gracing the best designer’s runways. We suggest using it on all your swimwear as Thakoon did for his line at Target. Dennis Basso used the technique or the appearance there of on flowing fabrics in rich colors.

The Boyfriend: There are so many elements and pieces of clothing that contribute to this look and trend. You’ve probably already seen it around, but it’s here for at least another season. The latest line to produce your boyfriend’s pieces in your size is Boy Band of Outsiders. They already have a major following including Kirsten Dunst with tailored pants and tuxedo style jackets. Slouchy pants, oversized button-downs and big t-shirts were plentiful at William Rast’s show for Spring 2009. All this wearing of belted cardigans and shiny oxford shoes proves that we all love to steel from our boyfriend or brother’s closet.
