So you’re typing away at your local Starbucks. Sitting in one of those little two-seater tables, trying to be cool and seem like you’re working on a script when in actuality you’re on your third TPS report on a Saturday cause you slacked off all week in your cubicle drowning yourself in youtube videos. All of a sudden, right when you’re in the middle of a TPS hot streak (momentum for the fingers) your laptop shuts off. That’s right, the battery’s dead. You reach into your little khaki messenger bag only to find out that you’ve left your charger at home. Well, thanks to the good folks over at Voltaic Systems, this doesn’t have to be the case for many of us anymore.
They’ve recently developed a Generator Solar Bag that’s able to harvest solar power and charge up a laptop with less than a day’s worth of sun. How it works? Basically, if you’re on the go, or even if you leave the bag outside for a bit, the suns rays charge up the solar panel’s outside of the bag up to 15 watts worth of power via 20% efficient cells. In about 5 hours, the Voltaic battery inside should be charged up. The bag fits a variety of notebook sizes, and also comes with different adapters to connect to the battery inside. Adapters range from various notebooks to even cell phones. Word to the wise, don’t leave your laptop inside of the bag out in your yard while it charges up. This could create quite the unwanted problem.
Pros:
- Have your notebook or cell phone charge up while you’re on the go.
- Comes with an array of common adapters.
- You’re one step closer to the green side.
Cons:
- At $500 it seems like a bit of a tough buy during a recession.
- Five hours to charge seems a lot longer than the hour when it's plugged into the wall.
- Are we sure this works???
