In any given office space, there are going to be millions of germs, just because these places are usually crowded with many people who are sick at any given time. Whether it’s the door handles, chairs or even the fridge, they’re all covered in germs. But there’s one place that definitely takes the cake, and you’re the one that primarily touches it (just as I am right now), the keyboard. Unfortunately, since these great technological innovations sprung up into our world, zillions of pizza, cupcake, bread and potato chip crumbs have fallen into the cracks. Even though those little air cans came along to wisp everything out of there, it still isn’t enough to disinfect the damn thing. That’s why Esterline has come along and developed a keyboard that’s one step closer to being junk free.

The Medigenic Infection-Control Keyboard is different from your typical keyboard in that it has a flat keyboard design, with fake 3D key graphics to help those through the transition, and can be wiped clean with hospital-grade disinfectants. A few perks come in the form of a backlight for low-light environments, and a disable button for when you’re wiping it down, preventing accidental key presses.
Pros:
- Disable button, not ruining the work currently on the screen.
- A bit more sanitary than the typical keyboard.
- Warning light that warns you it’s time for a cleaning.
Cons:
- Runs at $140. Questionable for a keyboard.
- Said to perform with “conventional keyboard-like performance.” But not guaranteed.
- How can it really know when it’s time for a clean?
