There are many places in Miami that people would refer to as ‘staples,’ in the community. Whether it’s a restaurant, bar, or even a nightclub, there’s always an opinion on what a staple is. But when it comes to purely good music on an independent scale, there’s only one place in this city that should pop into everyone’s thoughts, Sweat Records. Not only do they have some of the best selection in music you can find in the city, but there’s also DVD’s, limited toys, and quite possibly the best damn cupcakes this side of the Mississippi! This Saturday night their doors are open as usual, but come 6p.m., they’ll be a little something special that only comes around once a year.
Celebrating four years of fantastic music, events and not to mention Record Store Day, Sweat Records will be celebrating their birthday in true fashion. We were lucky enough to be a part of this last year, and we can tell you that we’ll definitely be there again. The event will feature exclusive indie-only releases from an insane variety of artists, music by WVUM DJs, a special live performance by Panic Bomber, free wine tasting for the kids who show up early (21+ of course), an endless array of vinyl, kegs and…drumroll…cupcakes! What would a Sweat party be without those things? I’m afraid to even think of it.
There’s definitely set to be a jubilant vibe at Sweat this Saturday with everything that’s going on in-store. We’ll even let you in on a little secret…apparently Rachel Goodrich is performing as well, but we didn’t tell you. When you combine booze, great music, lots of free little gifts, and cupcakes, there’s absolutely no reason to miss out on it.
