Although Miami is considered to be one of the nation’s leaders in nightlife and entertainment, for locals this sometimes doesn’t seem to be the case. As a majority of weekly parties don’t seem to offer anything special on a…well weekly basis, everyone’s attention is always focused on the ‘different’ factor that a new party has to offer. Luckily for everyone, CoolJunkie has teamed up with a group of burgeoning underground enthusiasts to provide everyone with that ‘different’ aspect that everyone yearns for.
This Thursday the boys that brought you Live Fast and Die Fresh are teaming up with CoolJunkie.com to present The Big Sleep at PS14. Just as the previous event had art and music collide, The Big Sleep will also feature an urban gallery exhibit that kicks off at 9 p.m., live body painting and special performances by Skam2? and Parable as well as residents Madame Turk and Salami Fingaz.
“There are going to be lots of exciting areas in the party for different people to experience that gallery vibe of different art aspects of the night,” says co-producer Sammy Donado aka Parable. “We’re going to have about 18 pieces hanging as well as a live painting booth, a live body painting booth and a CoolJunkie booth for photography with chipi.”

For the gallery portion of the night the track selection will be provided by Murk’d resident DJ Salami Fingaz who’s looking to create a sound vibe that reflects the work.
“My job is to basically drop a mellow sound while people are enjoying the art, something that reflects the work,” said Salami Fingaz. “I’m looking to drop a lot of 90s hip hop and take it as far back as obscure 80s hip hop.”
The gallery will feature work by ABSTRAK, PointTooSicks, NFRomero while AholSniffsGlue will do live body painting. Just like Live Fast and Die Fresh, The Big Sleep is similar in that it incorporates music and art, but on a more amped up level.
“We’re trying to capitalize on the art party type of event,” says co-producer Javi Ordoñez. “This time around we threw in more art elements but we also sprinkled in better drink specials and the live art aspect.”
After things begin to wrap up for the gallery around midnight, performances will begin with Parable and Madame Turk. Although the transition from gallery to full-on party may sound a bit difficult, the last Murk’d event proved that it isn’t impossible.
“I definitely want to do an eclectic mix of higher energy music that you haven’t heard in a while since I’ll be going on after the art party and people will be ready to party by then,” said resident DJ Madame Turk. “I definitely want to break some new stuff in that I’ve gotten from the blogs.”

For those who haven’t attended a Murk’d event, their style is one of unique characteristics in which the mass appeal of the urban scene collides with art. Not intended for one sole audience, each event is open to all who enjoy music and art.
“Murk’d is like the embodiment of the next level of blank,” says Parable. “You fill in the blank. Whether it’s the next level of music or art, you want to murk it, you want to kill it and make it the best. In this particular instance it’s a party. We want to kill it, we want to have fun. We want everyone to come out and get murked with us.”
From live body painting to special MC performances, The Big Sleep will be a highlight event for the city this week.
“It’s going to be like a circus,” Ordoñez said. “There’s going to be a lot going on.”
