Lets’ get down to the thread…
Shop Miami came and went last week at the Dupont building downtown Miami. Man is the space gorgeous! The vaults, the ceilings, the marble, the lighting….it’s just gorgeous! The event was just as nice, with new and old vendors selling, trading and hustling the sales.
There were great prices on everything and I noticed many took advantage. Personally I was working the event, so I did not have a chance to shop, chat or mix it up, but from what I saw, it was fun.
The next fashion extravaganza was the 1957 Prom which had a fantastic turn out with more than 70 percent dressed in full gear. Lots of girls were Queens of The Prom and wore their own crows. The girls from Gen Art wore authentic 50s prom dresses from C. Madeleine, Barbara Basti of Poplife and several other ladies were the outcast Pink Ladies with jackets, cat eye glasses and pearls. . . lots and lots of pearls.
Guys didn’t hold back. There were young Elvis looking lads, greasers and sharp Rat Packers, including DJ Induce who wore an authentic Pucci tie from the 50s and fitted suit.
Besides Halloween fashions, there are a few other events related to people in fashion and the fashion industry and their friends.
Monday nights at O Asian Grill (the old Rumi) is a cute little party, The Hong Kong Hustle. It’s a complimentary dinner for ladies and those involved in the fashion industry. The complimentary dinner is a bowl of noodles (tasty), a tiny California Roll and one cocktail. Not bad for a Monday night snack. It starts at 9:30 and the last meal is served at 10:30. After, stay for the karaoke in the Bamboo Room with host Fabian or downstairs by the bar for dancing and mingling. I’ve been…it’s cool.
Wednesdays at Gemma, people in the fashion and media industry are welcomed to come by and mix it up. After 9 pm walk on in, have a seat on the balcony or on one of the plush seats inside, get a cocktail and enjoy. It’s a nice place, so be fashionable. Located on 525 Lincoln Road. No cover, 21+.
The latest glam rock style is VIP Couture by 20 year old designer Hassan Pierre. It’s a mix of 80s punk, a dash of glam rock and all Miami with silk screened tees and baseball caps. I’ve already seen the “Caviar and Cocaine” tees on South Beach boys at Suite and Opium Garden and Fashion Gods only know how quickly that will spread through out the city. Check it out at shopvipcouture.com.
As for the trends, I love the wide leg pant, high waist pants. On the low end, F-two-one (For Ever 21) has a cute pair called The Kelly Wide Leg Pant at $24.80. A little higher is the one is the classic Editor Pant from Express at $59.50. And if you want to splurge, the Nina Ricci Wide-Leg Pant at $990.00 is luxury. Tonal diagonal stripes, single-pleated front, side slash pockets, front zip. Fabric is 70% wool, 16% polyamide, 12% silk, 2% acetate. Fabulous!
The other craze is the Christian Louboutin shoe. It’s up to the point that imitations are spreading like the California fires by having a red sole. But you can’t fool me. The Louboutin color is special and unique.
The Ariella Studded Boot is my favorite and the $1,150.00 pair is simply amazing. But have you seen the Gina Stardust Boot? It’s a rouched black satin knee boot with a jeweled Swarovski 'Jet' diamante cuff, topped off with an easy 4" stiletto heel. The price for this beauty is just $1,868.87. I just got the shivers.
