So I went to Christy's for lunch today with some coworkers. Last time and only time I had been there was as a kid. And from what I remember, it was a good meal. Christy's is a steakhouse in Coral Gables and is known for their caesar salad and their baked alaska, among other items. One of my coworkers had been craving their black bean soup & caesar salad, so we figured it'd be a good time to go with it being Miami Spice time.

Upon sitting, we were immediately served water and a bread basket. But it would be some time before we actually had a waiter come over and take our order. Even saw some ladies who were seated after us have their order taken before us. We ended up having to flag down a passing waiter and asked him to find our waiter. He ended up coming back and taking our order himself. I decided to go with the Caesar Salad, the Double Petit Filet Mignon and the Key Lime Pie.

We were noting, as we were waiting for our appetizer, how masculine this steakhouse felt. And the lighting was on the dim side such that it felt like this was the type of place you took your mistress to and sat in the corner.

So the caesar salad arrives at the table. All of us had ordered it. I took a bite and thought it was delicious. I like my caesar salad with creamy caesar dressing. Not overly drenched, but not dry either. Well, this salad was pretty much to my liking! I recommend. While I was enjoying my caesar salad, I realized my waiter didn't ask me how I wanted the filet cooked, so I had to quickly find him before it was too late. Luckily, I found him and ordered it medium.

The entrees eventually arrive, including the black bean soup my coworker had been craving. I took a spoonful of it and thought it was definitely delicious. It was a very hearty black bean soup with some ham flavor to it. Even came served with sherry to be mixed in. My coworker asked for it on the side instead of having them do it in the kitchen.

So my double petit filet mignon's each came on top of a piece of fried eggplant and with a side of mashed potatoes and broccoli. Overall, I have to say my food was on the bland side. The broccoli wasn't steamed enough. The mashed potatoes had decent flavor, but didn't taste like anything out of this world. The batter of my fried eggplant could have used some seasoning, as it was not seasoned at all. The bernaise sauce was too thick from what I was used to and a lil' too strong for my taste. My petit filet mignon's were a lil' too charred on some edges from the grill. Too charred for my taste, as I could taste the charred-ness (if that is even a word, hah) more than I could taste the meat when I ate those particular areas. Luckily, it was still pink in the center, despite all that. But honestly, the filet didn't have as much flavor as the one I remember having at Smith & Wollensky (last year for Miami Spice). I had to eat Christy's filet with the bernaise sauce that I was using sparingly. The Smith & Wollensky filet that I had was so tasty, so nicely seasoned, but not overly seasoned that you didn't even need to eat it with the bernaise sauce. But if you did use Smith & Wollensky's bernaise, it was still just as delicious. Anyway, two of my coworkers got the Salmon Teriaki and said they enjoyed it. Their salmon also came with the mashed potatoes and broccoli and like me, they also thought the same about the sides.

So we finish our entrees and order up dessert. Two key lime pies and one caramel flan. I tried the caramel flan. It was just okay. The key lime pie, on the other hand, was a winner. I'm glad I chose that over the flan. It was very tart, but had a thicker than usual (at least from my experience) graham cracker crust on the bottom. What was interesting about the crust was that it had cinnamon and thinly sliced almonds in it. It was very good. A nice way to finish off the meal.

I really enjoyed my appetizer & dessert the most. The entree I really wasn't impressed with. It wasn't horrible, but I expected better than that. It left me a bit disappointed. Not sure I'd go back there for another Miami Spice lunch, but I'd go back for a black bean soup & caesar salad!
