The beginnings of the swell hit up here Sunday. Although, more than most failed to check the newly changed swell model which placed the bulk of the swell into Monday & Tuesday instead of the original Sunday & Monday. So, an assload of inlanders invaded New Smyrna Beach Sunday morning to find only ankle-high surf on the beach & not too much better at the inlet. To top it off, the Rip Curl Grom Search contest was going on which, basically, shuts down a majority of the surf area at the inlet.
I patiently waited, at my house, for the incoming morning tide & the arrival of the swell. By 10:30am, my street was a solid waist-high & semi-glassy. By 1pm, waist-to-chest with the occassional shoulder-high sneaker set. Of course, the best waves were breaking in the
no-surf zone. So, I spent a while dodging the lifeguards & their bullsh#t whistles. Luckily, none were about to swim out 1/3 mile out to sea to call me out. After about an hour, they gave up & left us to enjoy the ocean.
Super fun Sunday all around!
