As far as I can tell, a lifeguard's main duty is to keep anyone from having fun. Is that about it?

We were trying to do a little body surfing on the sandbar on south beach on Saturday. We're only out a couple dozen yards or so and the water is about waist high. The push was inward, not outward. And we got whistled in.
