Default De La Guarda DJ CONNECTION

De La Guarda DJ CONNECTION and Astralwerks are thrilled to announce a special appearance by international superstar Fatboy Slim, ONE NIGHT ONLY: Wednesday, July 28th @ 8:00 PM. DJ CONNECTION is a wild, extended version of De La Guarda, during which a live DJ spins into the high-flying, adrenaline-charged action of the hit show.

Fatboy Slim is the fun-loving guise of Brighton, England native Norman Cook. Over the course of his musical career, he has undergone numerous musical makeovers. He first began as the bassist for the eighties Brit-pop band, The Housemartins. Having had enough of the band thing, he switched gears and founded the funky outfit Beats, International. Still feeling that his call was more as a DJ and producer, Cook began making tracks under his own name as well as numerous alias', including Mighty Dub Katz, Freak Power and Pizzaman.

His debut album as Fatboy Slim, Better Living Through Chemistry was an instant smash featuring the infectious "Going Out Of My Head" which sampled a riff form the Who song "Can't Explain." But it was his sophomore effort You've Come A Long Way, Baby that catapulted him into the spotlight. The album's two singles, "The Rockafeller Skank" and "Praise You" were radio and MTV mainstays. The album went on to gain Platinum status as well as garner three MTV Video Music Awards. His next album, Halfway Between The Gutter and The Stars, included the Billboard Club smash "Star 69 (What the F***)" with vocals by Roland Clarke and "Weapon of Choice" with vocals by Bootsy Collins. The video for "Weapon of Choice," featuring the dancing Christopher Walken and directed by Spike Jonze won an unprecedented six MTV Video Music Awards including Breakthrough Video as well as a Grammy Award for "Best Short Form Music Video." In addition to his penchant for great songs, Fatboy Slim's success can also be attributed to being one of the most in-demand remixers in the world and of course for his mind-blowing DJ sets, spinning dance-floor anthems and old school favorites to create a non-stop party. His new album Palookaville is set for release on October 5, 2004 and will be Fatboy Slim's fourth studio outing. The album will feature guest vocalists including contributions from Damon Albarn, Lateef (from Latyrx and the Quannum Collective), Justin Robertson and local Brighton band Johnny Quality. The lead single from the album will be a remake of Steve Miller Band's classic "The Joker" featuring vocals from Bootsy Collins.

Upon opening at the Daryl Roth Theatre in June 1998, De La Guarda pushed the boundaries of theater, becoming a major draw on the downtown scene. The show delights New Yorkers and tourists alike, as well as countless celebrities from Madonna to Britney Spears, Justin Timberlake to Leonardo Di Caprio and thrill-seeking “frequent flyers.” It landed in New York following a run at the 1997 London International Festival of Theatre, where it played to sold-out houses. Members of De La Guarda performed in Buenos Aires, Argentina for over 12 years before coming together in 1993 to form the current production. De La Guarda is directed by Pichon Baldinu and Diqui James.

De La Guarda plays at the Daryl Roth Theatre, 20 Union Square East (at 15th Street) as follows: Tuesday-Thursday at 8:00 PM, Friday at 8:00 & 10:30 PM, Saturday at 7:00 & 10:00 PM and Sunday at 7:00 PM.
