Ain't that the truth... heck I have a rich friend with 2 quads... both have quadro FX's... both have dual 30 inchers (4 total)... both have $3600 worth of memory ($7200 in memory alone): All this power to read email and surf the internet... yes it's true.... just email and surfing. But hey he's rich.... and in general most people use their computers for that. This is no different than owning an expensive car... computers are beginning to take on the same status worth.

The mid-to-late 90s had companies like Sun, Oracle, and (formerly) DEC proposing and trying to sell the "network computer", which would essentially run everything on the old terminal model, with only a simple GUI on the front end. They'd cost less than a Mini and come with a display, keyboard, and mouse.

Never caught on really, most corporate users didn't want to switch yet again their model of doing things...and the "network" wasn't quite there yet for the home user.

Frankly I think most people could easily get away with such a thing even today.

The concept is enjoying somewhat of a revival in Third World nations, where the goal is to get a computer under $100.

Shuffles suck dude... and this is coming from an Apple Fanboy. If Steve Jobs gave me a shuffle.. I would ask him who is he kidding? That is a POS product... do you really want one?

I have a shuffle in addition to my video iPod. I only use the shuffle at the gym. It's great for that purpose, but honestly, any flash based mp3 player will do the trick and they're all similarly priced these days. Plus, the non-Apple products have an LCD screen on them, if you need that. But I'm telling you Nick, if the shuffle's all you want, just pick up one at Brandsmart. The 512MB model is 88 bucks. You could probably get one even cheaper on eBay.

As for a new shuffle model, I don't forsee another Apple product announcement until their 30th anniversary this April.
