OKLAHOMA CITY -- Lt. Gov. Mary Fallin said Thursday she has had preliminary discussions with officials of National League baseball's Florida Marlins about the possibility of relocating to Oklahoma City.

"It's all very preliminary, but I have received some good feedback from the Marlins," Fallin said in a statement.

The owner of the Marlins, Jeff Loria, is the former owner of the old Oklahoma City 89ers Triple A baseball team.

Fallin said she wrote to Marlins President David Sampson last November after seeing reports that the team was considering leaving the Miami area after local government leaders expressed reluctance about offering public funding for a new stadium.

She said she has spoken by telephone several times to with Marlins Vice Chairman Joel Mael and sent Marlins' officials a packet of economic development and demographic information about central Oklahoma.

"The Marlins have asked for some more detailed information, and we are working to put that together for them," she said. "I will bringing Chamber of Commerce and local and state government leaders together very soon to begin that process.

"Obviously, one strong sales point has been the tremendous success of the NBA Hornets in Oklahoma City this season. We are suddenly on the map for big league sports

Those guys are dying out there for a pro sports team and Baseball is big in Oklahoma! I think they can get more attendance than they do here at Pro Players Stadium...

To bad for South Florida! Looks like all you native Floridians will have to root for the Devil Rays now...LOL

[/quote]Well if no one roots for the Devil Rays how come Tampa been able to keep them in town? The Marlins win Miami 2 W.S and now none of you people give a shit about wheater or not they are here?

I come from a town where in the MLB team has never even been to the World Series in its 27 year history! And the city built them a ball park close to downtown Seattle and close to the water on the piers there. It's a magnificant ballpark and a great place to take the family or go watch a game with your friends. Every seat in that ball park is a great seat. AND THOSE DAMM MARINERS HAVE DONE SHIT FOR SO LONG!!

Hell if the Mariners won 2 world series in 10 years, the y would have their own city for christs sake!

But no! you people down here don't give a shit about the Marlins.

And it's quite possible that your kids will never go to a baseball game down here someday soon....

i learned at a young age that fans here suck. the hurricanes and dolphins have the biggest fan base and even at dolphin games you see A LOT of fans for the other team (especially jets). the way fans have supported the marlins down here is disgusting and i don't think south florida deserves a team. if we can't even support a team that's won 2 world series in it's first 13 years of existence!
