You're not allowed to walk up the street smoking a cigarette because someone might be exposed to your second-hand smoke. But its ok for the city to operate a gas-guzzling bus, exposing those same citizens to deadly emissions and greenhouse gases. http://abclocal.go.com/kabc/story?se...amp;id=4001365

I never once said you could lock yourself in a garage and leave the car running and be okay. I would, however, argue that you could lock yourself in a garage with a chain-smoker for three hours and leave with nothing more then stinky clothes. Does this new law apply to second-hand smoke coming off a BBQ grill? So which is more dangerous? Second-hand smoke or exhaust fumes? To outlaw second-hand smoke outdoors is amusing in a city that has public bussing. You can't stick your mouth around a tail-pipe and expect to be able to live to tell about it... This thread was meant to be amusing, but make no mistake, Florida will eventually attempt to pass such laws.

[/quote]Currently BBQ grilling seems to be under control. People do it fairly rarely (compared to cigarette smoking), and generally contain it to very small, very specific areas. But cigarette smokers nearly ruined GG for me, yesterday. If they kept it to themselves, that would be something different, but they don't. And, just to be fair, if they placed a referrendum restricting all vehicle emissions to non-lethal, non-poluting gases, I would also be the first in line to vote for it, even though it would cost me money.

| But I thought you just said ALL cigarette smoking should be outlawed. Now your saying its ok for BBQ's because they happen to be contained.....which is it? This law that was passed makes it illegal to smoke a cigarette in your own backyard. What makes this different then a BBQ? I would argue a BBQ lets off much more hazardous smoke then a cigarette....what if someone BBQ's everyday? Do they get a special citation for BBQ'ing too much? I can smell my neighbor's BBQ 1/2 mile up the street, but hell if I know when he lights up a cigarette in his backyard....

| It's a wierd law. So basically the only place you can smoke is in your house, thus exposing who ever lives in the house to the second smoke. It makes no sense. I don't smoke but you should be able to smoke in your own back yard. Maybe this law would make more sense if it banned smoking from outside resturaunts, bus stops etc...where people gather. I hate it when I go to Lincoln road with my family for lunch and eat outside when there's someone smoking next to your table... :-X They should just ban cigarettes all together. Thousands of people die from heart and lung cancer caused by smoking thus incrreasing the cost of health care for the rest of us people who don't smoke. (I smoke only when I drink which is like 2 or 3 times a year so I don't fall into this category). Cigarettes (nicotine) is also usually the first drug that kids take, leading to pot and other drug that are worse..
