Dallas Austin Arrested in Dubai

This arrest occurred May 18th and he has been in jail ever since. Held without bail for 1.26 grams :P R U kidding me??? Unreal...and so little coverage of the story.

Trial Sunday in a Dubai court for possession of cocaine.

Two attorneys for Austin appeared briefly in court in this Arab emirate Tuesday morning. In an arraignment-like procedure, Austin was formally charged with possession of 1.26 grams of cocaine.


A trial before a Dubai judge was scheduled to begin Sunday. In that proceeding, as in U.S. courts, Austin's lawyers will be able to present a defense.


The Grammy-winning Austin has been held without bail at the Rashidya police station in Dubai since his arrest May 19 at Dubai International Airport.

In another article it mentions lengthy sentences even for small amouts and death for trafficing.

Exactly. Figure it out when you get there, if that's your thing, or if it's a country that is pretty harsh (most Arab and Muslim nations) on drug usage, do without.

Besides, in an Arab country I'd probably be more interested in the culture than getting fucked up. I can do that at home.

Ummmm yes he does “get down like that”… That being said, I think DA’s only hope is a massive boycott of Dubai among the rich and famous that vacation in the country. This may get the owners of hotels, resorts, etc to step up on his behalf. Otherwise, DA is going to do some time.

The guy brought some booch w/ him and got snagged. Bad place to get snagged, though.

I've been to the U.A.E.,,,,it may be the "las vegas" of the mid east, but they don't play that! this guy's in trouble!

As for not spending money there....the only people who vacation there are the uber-rich...ie...OIL TYCOONS. They gould give 3 craps about our handful of "millionairs" who might spend a wknd there.

Personally, I feel bad for the guy. I couldn't give 3 shits if the guy had some personal-use butter on him. But he should have known better. He's got money. He could have bought more when he got back to the states. Bad move dude! Good luck!

On another note..the place is AMAZING...It's like "America-lite". It's a booming city.
