This is a great time if you already have money. Sucks if you're poor.

You can shelter a lot of money if you make your maximum IRA contribution plus an HSA contribution every year, especially as a couple. And some people can make 401k, IRA and HSA contributions all in the same year.

Rich people can squirrel away an extra ten grand every year tax-free, while poor people have to choose between prescription medication or heating oil in the winter. This is a truly great country that we're living in.

Both, actually. A lot of poor people are faring even more badly these days. And just because American poor people are not as "poor" as 3rd world poor people doesn't mean it doesn't suck.
