Default iDud: Has Your iPod Broken Yet?

We love our Macs -- that's why we want them to last. Apple has some of the best designers in the world. So why do iPods so often die before the warranty expires? And why are they so environmentally hazardous? Shouldn't "good design" include durability and a concern for a product's afterlife? We think so. And we hope you'll join us in urging Apple to think different.

Good design of a product, especially a portable one, should definitely include durability. I was just talking with someone about this today. She has a RAZR phone, but she feels like it's gonna break each time she uses it. Things are so damn flimsy.

I've got two first-generation iPods that are still going strong. Based on my sample size of two, I'm happy with their durability.

Also, Apple's laptops are heavily used now by people working in less than stellar environments. From shooters out in the field, to DJs in smoky nightclubs, they're not exactly in stark-white design houses anymore.

What I'm getting at is they need to make MacBooks that are quite a bit more robust now.
