I just switched from Comcast to Bell South. The tech guy I had to talk with the other day was a moron, and didn't know what the hell he was talking about. (while he was yapping about nothing, and doing line tests, I figured out what the problem was on my own using Google)

But other than that, I think my Bell South connection is working much better than Comcast was.

yep ur right. i never had disconnects from bellsouth. my comcast goes down off and on

download speeds are more than great, not counting that the upload ...

Bling, call Bellsouth, see if they can match that and maybe, just maybe i will switch back ... NOT !

Are you really downloading that fast though? Did you do a test? They advertise one speed as the max, but what you actually get may be different.

DSL is a best effort service. Even business DSL is. The only advantage to business is that you'll get faster tech support and maybe some extras.

You want the guaranteed speed, you're gonna have to shell out for a T1 or better.

just saw ur message and i did a test ... this is about 6 min ago ..

8696 / 735 (Kbps)
(1061.5 / 89.8 KB/sec)
Compared to the average of 2747 tests from comcast.net:
* download is 14% better, upload is 35% better

that was on http://www.dslreports.com/ using their Miami test server ....

now, do i download THAT fast everytime? 50% of the time no .. nobody downloads at their advertised speed alll the time, it is just impossible because of many factors (network congestions, server locations, how web pages are encoded, etc etc)

still, cable is been the best internet service i have ever had, DSL was extremely reliable but it was either:

1- home phone and DSL access from BellSouth or
2- cable TV and cable access from Comcast ...

i choose #2, i do not need a home phone anyways if i have a cell plan with 1500 monthly minutes .. thats more than plenty plus! upload speeds with Comcast are faster ..

I rather have cable.

I currently have DSL 6.0 but when i am downloading from my peer to peer programs, i cant download to its full extent because of ports or firewalls because of bellsouth.

I have tried everything possible to open ports and i still cant run my downloads to its full extent as far as connecting to everyone that has the same file.

When i had atlantic broadband on the beach i never had this problem and i would download files 50% faster. I still think cable is the way to go, but i got dsl because it was jsut a bit cheaper.
