Meanwhile, Al Qaeda leadership reportedly called off a plan to attack the NYC subway system with cyanide bombs because they, "have something better in mind". Now the CIA reports that Osama bin Laden is building new terrorist training camps. Are they training jihadists there for the next 9/11? Why did we invade Iraq instead of hunting down Osama bin Laden, and why are we still in Iraq losing lives and creating new terrorists when the people who attacked us on 9/11 are still out there plotting to kill us and taunting us for our inability to capture them?

| Let's take this in context though. Al-Qaeda is not one man, nor a country. It is in 50 countries and they do not fear death. Nor can we bomb their cities or infrastructure because their infrastructure is in 50 other countries. Our only chance of defeating them is staying on the offense, cutting off their funding, and STAYING UNITED! Posted by: Robert Nunemaker I kind of like this guy's comments on the whole issue...even if Osama was or is dead...there are probably 20 Osama's out there and they will never stop building camps and plotting ways to kill us. We have to be untied and support our troops and pray to God that the government can stay on top of these next so-called attacks on us...before they happen. |

| MegaJunkie | Democracy in the middle east is the only true way to stop terrorism.. This is why success in iraq is so important. Since 911 a lot of positive things have happened in the middle east in terms of democracy. |

Losing in Iraq is pretty depressing, but losing against the specific guys who attacked us on 9/11 is intolerable.

Speaking of democracy in the middle east, did anyone check out the Turkish elections story? At least they can get rid of a President that everyone hates and is fucking up the country. We have to wait years for the next election.

| the subversion of Islam is so insidious that it may never come back to an acceptable level of "moderation" again. as long as the Palestinian-Israeli conflict remains unresolved this shit will never end. it doesnt matter how many Osams Bin Ladens we smart bomb or take out this struggle runs much deeper and streches back centuries. Intelligence and Prevention is the best weapons we have, there is no negotiating with these barbarians. at any rate, the bush adminstration hasnt been perfect in their campaign on the war on terror, but i doubt Gore or Kerry would be much more successful. pointing the finger and blaming all our ills on Bush is disingenuous at best, but our continued support of Isreal will ensure that it will never stop. THIS STARTED WAY BEFORE BUSH WAS EVEN BORN. Try the Balfour Declaration as a recent reference point.

| you've got to be joking. stick to club politics/economics. Democracy in the middle east is the proverbial square peg/round hole idiom. People in the middle east are way too THEOCRATIC to ever truly accept democracy. stabilizing the middle east will probably never be feasible in the short term, and force feeding democracy down their throats isnt helping isnt either. Democracy is definitly not the end-all solution to the situation in the middle east, but diplomacy is a better one.

[/quote] when did we stop trying to find OBL? thats news to me.. anyways, it doesnt matter, you elimnate him and another one takes his place. this is a very complex struggle that will probably never end, there is just too much hate, ignorance, and intolerance for it too. the ambiguity and the innumerable (mis)interpretations of the koran isnt helping matters either.
