Funnier by-the-numbers version.

I used to do this shit all the time to varying degrees. Shooters would come in, drop off their files, or in the old days, film, and I'd fix up the issues.

Good lighting and an excellent make-up artist go a long way. When I do DJ shoots, it doesn't matter as much, DJs and musicians are supposed to look banged up. With girls, whole 'nother story. I either request they pay for a good MUA, or they pay me extra to take care of it later. I'm lazy, so I do prefer to have it done right the first time.

Though I've been fortunate enough that the girls I've shot tend to know what their doing when applying make-up, or just naturally look good. There's this one girl I snap a photo of a lot lately, and she needs little to no work. She looks good at 6 AM.

a 40-ish woman in my office recently had "glamour shots" done. let me tell you, she spent almost a grand on these pictures, but whatever the photographer did was worth every penny and probably worthy of an award. it was like a different person.

If I ran a mag, I would have a no shopped policy. Faith is still smoking hot for her age.

Your magazine wouldn't sell worth a damn then, if it was oriented towards fashion.

Realistically, in fashion magazines, the girls are just living clothes hangers.

What about make-up?

And, since time immemorial, magazines have altered and retouched photos. Photoshop just made it easy and non-destructive.

Creative lighting, glass filters in the past, RAW files and Photoshop now.

[/quote]It would really depend on the quality of your photogs, in that case. I do think the photoshopper in this example fucked some stuff up, but the photographer did a horrible job to begin with. Faith looks great on video, no reason she shouldn't in print, too.
