Bosses headed up to the Mac store on Lincoln to get a new one. Easy enough, right? EEEEEEEEHHHHHHHHHH! Sorry, we have some nice parting gifts for you in the back. Mac does not make them, anymore, ergo the Mac store does not carry them, anymore. Fuck you very much, Mac.

| Non Sufficit Orbis | Yeah, I was about to say that. Most Macs come with it built-in. Though in retrospect, I have run into a similar situation before. Last year, we got a used G5 here at the HQ that came sans Wi-Fi. Since running cables (at the time) was out of the question, we had to get a Wi-Fi dongle or card for it. First try was to throw a bog-standard Netgear 11G USB dongle onto it. No dice. System Profiler identified what it was, but the Mac simply wouldn't work with it. There was a workaround, but it was semi-complicated. The only Wi-Fi the G5 accepted was the Airport card. Which came with Bluetooth as an aside. But that's how Apple makes their boxen. The reason they work well is because Apple retains control of the OS and which hardware it will work with. It means a limited amount of hardware, yeah, but for what Macs are used for, everything gets along. For the obscure bit of industrial automation gear or whatever, chances are the desired system is running an embedded OS anyways.

Macboy, your info is at odds with what the Macslaves told us at the store. They never said that Mac never made, them, though once you mentioned it, I did check, and the old one is, indeed a D-Link. They also said that Mac no longer makes nor carries them, which implies that at one time they did. Obviously, I'll go to eBay or something, but the whole thing has been an unnecessary inconvenience.

[/quote] Is your Mac OS install also four years old? You're still running Jaguar?
