| HipJunkie | When I first went in, there were only a few meals -chicken a-la king (fondly referred to as chicken make you scream), turkey, diced w/ gravy, beef, diced with gravy, pork patty (dehydrated -reconstitute with water), beef patty (reconstitute with water), meatballs with bbq sauce, bbq beef loaf, ham and chicken loaf and all had these crackers that were so dry you'd have to stand out in the rain just to eat them. ..and the ensuing bloating, gaseous exchanges and constipation that would ensue was of epic proportions. Over the years the meals gort better -then we got the heating elements-deserts added 9previous deserts were nothing more than dehydrated fruit or "cakes" that were little more than cookie dough with chocolate chips or cherries in them) Thanks for the memories ![]() |

Say it again.....wow...that brought me back. :-X I kinda liked the big ass crackers w/ peanut butter...and I used to collect the tiny tabasco bottles. [/quote] I remember trading with other GIs different parts of MREs just to make something different -and every MRE became a gourmet meal when you added a packet of Top Ramen. And who can forget such great times downrange betting on who could eat an entire pack of the MRE crackers without drinking any water and not choking to death. FTW-making John Wayne Twix (taking the chocolate "cookie" and the peanut butter to make a twix. Can't forget ranger cookies-lighting the pack of dehydrated coffee creamer on fire to cook the creamer into a sort of shortbread cookie -and of course, can't forget cafe mocha with the coffee packet, cocoa packet and creamer and , when in a pinch needing a late nite pick me up while on recon or guard duty -eat the packet of coffee straight out of the pack. ;D AIRBORNE! | |
