it wasn't going to stay locked for ever.

i give it another 6 mos before they try that in Asia, or shortly after it happens.

Good for them. Apple went too far by making it a locked device.

The only problem is the end user.. do you want to apply this hack on your phone and a new firmware wipes it out.. the unlockers could take weeks to crack the new update... just like with the PSP.

Ideally, the hack would include some way of blocking new firmware updates either via OTA or iTunes.
