if the Golden Opulence Sundae was not lavish enough for your palate... New York's $25,000 dessert sets Guinness record Wed Nov 7, 2007 2:59pm EST Reuters NEW YORK (Reuters) - A day after New York City came up with a $1,000 bagel, a local restaurateur unveiled a $25,000 chocolate sundae on Wednesday, setting a Guinness world record for the most expensive dessert. Stephen Bruce, owner of Serendipity 3, partnered with luxury jeweler Euphoria New York to create the "Frrozen Haute Chocolate," a blend of 28 cocoas, including 14 of the most expensive and exotic from around the globe. The dessert, spelled with two Rs, is infused with 5 grams (0.2 ounces) of edible 23-karat gold and served in a goblet lined with edible gold. At the base of the goblet is an 18-karat gold bracelet with 1 carat of white diamonds. The sundae is topped with whipped cream covered with more gold and a side of La Madeline au Truffle from Knipschildt Chocolatier, which sells for $2,600 a pound. It is eaten with a gold spoon decorated with white and chocolate-colored diamonds, which can also be taken home. "It took us a long time to experiment with all the ingredients and flavors, and more than three months were needed just to design the golden spoon," Bruce told Reuters. Four years ago, Bruce unveiled a $1,000 ice cream sundae called Golden Opulence, a staple on his menu and a favorite with rock stars, socialites and other celebrities. Both desserts are sold only with advance orders. Bruce said he has received inquiries about his latest creation, mostly from Europeans planning to visit New York. "I wouldn't be surprised if soon we get a call from a Middle Eastern prince or Shah willing to give something sweet to his many wives on his next trip to the city," Bruce said. On Tuesday, New York chef Frank Tujague of The Westin New York hotel at Times Square unveiled the $1,000 bagel, topped with white truffle cream cheese and goji berry infused Riesling jelly with golden leaves. Sales will help raise funds for culinary school scholarships. http://www.reuters.com/article/domes...rpc=22&sp=true

I'm sorry, but that is just way too excessive. It doesn't even look appetizing to me. Call me a simple gal, I guess.

this place can't seem to stay out of the news. how much is the Golden Rat Poop Sundae? Health Dept. Closes Shop Selling $25,000 Sundae Inspector Finds Mice, Piles Of Droppings, 100 Roaches, Flies; Store Failed Second Inspection In A Month Nov 15, 2007 NEW YORK (CBS) ― If you've been saving your nickels and dimes for the $25,000 sundae unveiled last week at Serendipity 3, the popular Upper East Side dessert shop, we've got some not-so-delectable news for you. The Health Department confirmed Thursday to CBS 2 that the shop had been shut down Wednesday night after failing its second straight inspection in just a month's time. Serendipity 3 customers are turned away after seeing the shop was closed down by the Health Department. Department officials tell CBS 2 that both inspections revealed "rodent and fly infestation and conditions conducive to pest infestation, including stagnant water in the basement." The plumbing was reportedly so out of line that the "sewage disposal system [was] in disrepair or not functioning properly." On Wednesday night, the store, which has been featured in numerous Hollywood films, apparently kept open its wild zoo of filth for inspectors. The Department says the inspector came upon a live mouse, more than 100 live cockroaches, fruit flies, house flies, and piles of mouse dropping scattered about the restaurant. Just last week, owner Stephen Bruce introduced the world to his slightly overpriced chocolate sundae. For $25,000, a customer could purchase the "Frrozen Haute Chocolate," a blend of 28 cocoas, including 14 of the most expensive and exotic from around the world, served in a golden-lined goblet with a gold and diamond bracelet wrapped around its base. The sundae deluxe is infused with 5 grams of edible 23-karat gold, and topped with smothered in even more gold. Accompanying the treat is a side fo La Madeline au Truffle from Knipschildt Choclatier, which sells for $2,600 a pound. It even came with a golden spoon. Sadly though, this sundae is for the mice. Looks like you'll have to spend your 25-grand on something else. Store officials have not commented on the closure. http://wcbstv.com/local/serendipity.....2.568515.html
