CBS News said today that a former Texas National Guard officer had "deliberately misled" it in its inquiry into President Bush's National Guard service by providing it with "a false account" of the origins of documents used to reinforce questions raised about Mr. Bush's activities three decades ago. "Based on what we now know, CBS News cannot prove that the documents are authentic, which is the only acceptable journalistic standard to justify using them in the report," the president of CBS News, Andrew Heyward, said in a statement issued by the network. "We should not have used them. That was a mistake, which we deeply regret." "Nothing is more important to us than our credibility and keeping faith with the millions of people who count on us for fair, accurate, reliable, and independent reporting," Mr. Heyward continued. "We will continue to work tirelessly to be worthy of that trust. http://www.nytimes.com/2004/09/20/po...D-GUAR.html?hp |

| CoolJunkie | The issue with Kerry was Kerry's credibility. The issue with this crap is Dan Rather's credibility. Dan Rather's credibility means less to us than Kerry's. People realize that. Plenty of people also realize that regardless of the authenticity of the documents, the underlying story isn't changing: Bush is a draft dodger who sent other peoples' kids to war.

| People want to hear the real issues which will define this election. Right now this election looks like its albout the intimidation factor. NON of the candidates have really layed out the real issues to the working class american. They tell you all these promises but in the end they are overshadowed by all this press about how long Bush served in the National Guard and why did Kerry leave the military ect. These kind of actions are actually turning me off and to tell you the truth, I dont feel like voting due to this...and there are a lot of people out there getting turned off the same way I am all due to the president not highlighting the issues that really matter. They go to all these cities and all they do is talk bad about each other.
