dragging this out is only going to further alienate "neutral" voters with no clear party affiliation. the republicans had to work hard to overcome the bitter memories many people still had from the 2000 elections. the democrats shouldn't underestimate the potential long-term public relations damage that endless lawsuits could cause their party.

also, a lot of voters despise lawyers, which is probably why edwards added so little to the kerry ticket. becoming the "if we can't win, we'll sue you into submission" party isn't likely to rock the vote favorably in future elections.
