LONDON (Reuters) - European shares hit six-month highs near midsession Wednesday as investors bet President Bush will win the U.S. election, with drug stocks gaining on hopes he is less likely to impose price cuts on medicines.

Russian President Vladimir Putin:

"I rejoice that the American people did not allow themselves to be scared and made a right decision."

Polish President Aleksander Kwasniewski:

"Terrorism has to be rejected in today's world and in this respect George Bush is a very decisive leader who is right, simply right."

Swedish Prime Minister Goran Persson:

"I don't think we will see any significant changes in his policies. He is going to continue with the policies he believes in. Relations between the United States and Europe will be patched together step-by-step. Bush has not threatened with trade obstacles, Kerry did, so in that sense it might perhaps be a bit easier."

thanks, but i've already solemnly sworn to support and defend the constitution of the united states against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; and that I will obey the orders of the president of the united states and the orders of the officers appointed over me, according to regulations and the uniform code of military justice.

unlike senator kerry, i got an honorable discharge the first time around without having to wait for a review board and/or a presidential pardon.

in other words, i've already volunteered, but if they're running low on out-of-shape 40-year-olds who can't pass a flight physical anymore due to nearsightedness, they know where to find me.

i've got a 30-something friend who tried to get back into the army right after 9/11. he's fit, single, and already jump-qualified. his last security clearance was one of those "i could tell you but i'd have to kill you" ratings. he's got a ranger tab and combat experience. they told him to call dyncorp.

i don't expect a draft, but the military's current operational tempo is unsustainable. radical doctrinal and logistical changes would help, but we're still over-extended. something's going to change, one way or another, but the public and congress will not support a draft unless, i don't know, mexico tries to take back texas.

i really don't think your recurrent talk about a draft is motivated by concern for existing troops or potential draftees, however - i think you're just angry that bush won. again. if that's the case, fine, but chanting "draft! draft! draft!" isn't going to enlighten, persuade, or even frighten anyone. you've got valid reasons for disliking bush - the possibility that he'll enact a draft through executive order isn't one of them. start a thread about his support of the fma - i'll back you up on that one.
