| Last year it was really cool. They had the screening outside on the park, they gave away blankets, FREE DRINKS ALL NIGHT and live music. Good way to support local film directors. GEN ART PRESENTS: the 2nd Annual MIAMI SHORTS IN THE PARK November 18th, 2004 6:30pm - 11:00pm Margaret Pace Park 1745 North Bayshore Drive (off of 17th & Biscayne Blvd) Miami, FL 33132 Bring your blanket and enjoy a beautiful night under the stars championing today's most talented emerging Florida-based independent filmmakers 6:30pm: Evening begins with live musical performance by: Suenalo 7:45pm: Screening of three short films by finalists selected by a committee of distinguished film industry professionals (competing for a $5,000 grant made possible by Quantum on the Bay by Terra International) The short films are: Lechón (5 minutes) Director: Carlos Gutierrez A boy stumbles upon the farm of a lonely pig butcher and learns a life-changing lesson. Hot Java (12 minutes) Director: Adam Stein David, an obsessive coffee barista distills a potion out of rare beans in order to win his dream girl. The chaos of the coffee world gets the better of David's intricate strategy, launching him into the unknown. Conversations (16 minutes) Director: Ben Rock Josh Candleman (Curtis Armstrong), a small-town mortician, just wants to talk. He finds, however, that his most meaningful interactions take place with the people he's preparing for burial. When he's starved for conversation, he is not above murder if it will bring more "friends" to the slab. 8:30pm: Screening of Modern Classic Film SWINGERS directorial debut by Doug Liman (Bourne Identity, Go) starring Vince Vaughn, Jon Favreau, Ron Livingston & Heather Graham 11:00pm - 1:00am: After-Party @ Sky Bar 1901 Collins Avenue hosted by Heineken & Quantum on the Bay complimentary beverages provided throughout night by Boru Vodka, Heineken, Perrier, SoBe & Flor de Caña Rum The Inaugural Shorts in the Park program took place in Miami in October of 2003. The evening was a huge success as over 1,500 people turned out to watch great films under a starlit sky. Showing that night were Daheli Hall’s The Memo and Joel Fendelman’s Writing Through, while Victor Quiñaz received a $5,000 grant for his film Chinese Dream. The film was selected by an industry-based jury which included Nicole Guillemet of the Miami International Film Festival and Joanne Butcher of the IFP, is currently being considered for an Oscar nomination.
