By Jose Lambiet Palm Beach Post Staff Writer Saturday, February 03, 2007 Prince nixed an appearance at his own post-Super Bowl party — and a payoff rumored to be about $100,000 — because he was spooked by dragon motifs on the walls of the nightclub. Even promises by the owner of Ink, on Miami Beach's Washington Avenue, to cover all dragon carvings, sculptures and drawings with thick purple blankets for Sunday's affair couldn't change the weird little guitarist's mind. Prince, 48, scheduled to play a medley of his biggest tunes during the halftime show, is a devout Jehovah's Witness — and the group's followers believe the devil looks like a dragon. "We thought we had him for sure," said owner Laurent Bourgade. "We sent him the signed contract, but he sent back a woman from his entourage to tour the club. She seemed pretty satisfied at first. But then she said: 'Oops! This isn't going to work!' " The nightclub's name, Ink, refers to tattoos. Its décor features popular tattoo subjects, including dragons. "At first, she suggested that we cover everything in something purple (Prince's good-luck color)," Bourgade said. "That would have been no problem. But she called back a day later to say that even covered, Prince would know the dragons are all around him." The gig didn't involve much heavy lifting. All he'd have had to do is show up and look like, well, Prince. For that, he'd have received half the club's loot that night. "I've been at this for 23 years," Bourgade said. "So I know that with celebrities, it's all out of our control." Prince's reps didn't return calls for comment. I wonder what his excuses for Pangaea and Nocturnal were?

| Not for nothing but Prince has a pretty good reputation in Atlanta for showing up. I think it is b/c he liked the clubs as much as the appearance fee. eleven50 and Karma were 2 of his favs.
