Details are beginning to emerge about this year's Movement festival, which will be held at Detroit's Hart Plaza on May 26-28. Ferndale-based Paxahau Promotions Group, which assumed control of Detroit's annual electronic music festival in 2006 and will produce it again this year, says this year's festival will have better sound quality on the four music stages. "There will be a significant enhancement in sound and layout," Paxahau president Jason Huvaere said Thursday. "The sound is going to be a totally different experience than in years past." Renowned UK-based sound designers Funktion One will provide the sonic production, and Beatport, the electronic music downloading site, will sponsor one of the festival's stages, which will be located in the southwest corner of Hart Plaza and face the Detroit River, turning the grassy area that's acted as a chill-out zone in past years into a dancing hot spot. Festival officials are considering eliminating the underground stage because it is a "sonic nightmare," Huvaere said. Paxahau also is looking to tie the event's after parties to the festival, and a kickoff party is planned for May 25. As opposed to 2006, when promoters only had eight weeks to put the festival together, Huvaere says he and his team have relished having an entire year to plan it. Paxahau announced plans to return as promoters in last June. This year's festival will again be a ticketed event, with prices hovering around the same $15 per day, $40 per weekend price point as last year. One of the four music stages will be devoted exclusively to Detroit talent. A press release announcing several confirmed artists is planned for Feb. 15.

| FunkyJunkie | NICE!! Can't wait! Thanks for the info, I was going to look up the dates this week. Keep an eye on Spirt Airlines...they have rediculously cheap flights to Detroit....like $8 cheap!! Tickets aren't bad at all either! Ramon, you went last year, correct? I don't mean to be cliche, but I've never been to Detroit, only heard of it....so did you feel safe? Are there decent hotels close by? I'm sure I could handle it, I'm just curious if when people talk about how bad Detroit is if they are talking about years ago or if it's still that way. Thanks!

I felt safe. I travel with a few friends. I've been going for 3 years now and It's been great every year. You can't beat 40 dollars for a 3 day festival and afterparties are at most 15 dollars. Mostly everything is 5 or 10 dollars.

| CoolJunkie | I know dude, but I gotta take it one thing at a time here.. Just heard a Kevin Saunderson set on Sunday with some sound bites of "High Tech Soul" about him "spanking" out the music and people wanting more. What a great set and what a great documentary, thanks again to pornograph for bringing it. "Put your hands up for Detroit, a lovely city.." |
