Default Explain to me how EDM will "evolve"??

Tired of you people who say house and edm isn't dead who always say "it will evolve", so my question is, how and into what will it evolve??? I don't think this makes any sense. I think it's a term people use who can't argue their point that edm isn't dead.

There is already 340573824057389457 genres of edm, so how the fuck can it evolve to a level where it's accepted commercially???????

Marketing. And if these kids want their music to be played in places other than crack dens and their laptops, they gotta stop arguing and support.

we had this conversation on Friday. EDM is too broad of a genre to fall, like saying Rock or Jazz is dead, not gonna happen. After all everything is becoming digital and electronic so why wouldn't our music evolve along the same path. Its all about cycles, just like our economy or the weather, some times its great sometimes its not. Based on the shear number of people involved in EDM evolution is invitable, the question is when? thats what makes it interesting.

Heh, it's a nonsensical question. Unless you are Nostradomus, you can't predict the future. What is likely to happen is that some genius young punk will come up with the next great thing for EDM. This is what *always* happens, in music, as well as in life, in general. Do we know who or what it is? No. If we did, *we* would do it and become as rich as he or she will.

I've talked to people who have been involved with dance music for over twenty years. This "low point" is expected and normal. Sure, it sucks, but it's normal.

I can think of two or three "cycles" that have happened with dance music in popular culture since I took an interest in it.

Bear in mind though, with dance music, you're not dealing with your typical music paradigm.

There's no "groups", usually. The popular songs often are kicked out by people at their home studios.

The superstars are the medium, not the artist.

It's generally something listened to in nightclubs, not at home.

I could go on.

Elements of disco were incorporated into house.

Disco is not as broad of music genre as EDM. Would be equivalent to Progressive House dieing out. These are specific sub genres which cater to a particular market segment. Sub genres will die out, yes that is part of the evolution process, EDM will not

+1

It won't necesarilly "evolve" in the dictionary sense of the term, but just like all other styles, artists will put their own spin on something. Which will make it then "new" I think Electronic (not specifically dance) music was the final frontier as far as new never heard before music.
