Like I said, often, the customer regards being talked down and held in a holding patter to be par for the course in a South Beach nightclub. Grant it, across the bridge and at a few holdouts beachside, things are more egalitarian, but that shouldn't be justification for being held for no apparent reason.

Valid reasons for being "held" being (in my mind):

1. Capacity. Club only holds so much.
2. Don't 'fit' the night. It sucks, but it's the way.
3. Behavior issues. Drunk, violent, etc.
4. Age. Again, sucks, but those are the breaks.

At the least, I've always felt that a quick explanation is the courteous thing to do if you're not being let into a venue. That way you don't sit out there and can move on.
I get your point, but see if you would know me you would understand, that I'm never ever drunk, nor the club capacity was reached...And again, since I've been featured in different Magazines, (Ocean Drive, egotrip, sixdegrees, LRM) as well featured on Decodrive, for my recordlabel, worked with Gerry Kelly, Chris Paciello, Ingrid Cesares, Eric Homores, Eric Milan, as well with Dade Sokoloff, Olivier (BED) Jack Penrod just to mention a few...over 30 years in the Nightlife and Music Industry, so in that sense was really strange, to get this type of non-response...even the Mayor from Miami-Beach knows me...so maybe the Guy just couldn't stand me I don't know!
And since I'm a so called figure in the Entertainment industry, it's funny to get this kind of reaction...especially I work the same industry...
I'm normally not so often on messageboards, because I'm to busy working producing either music or events...
I think it was good something like that happen to me, otherwise I would have not even paid close attention to the ways of these rude Doormans!
I wait normally as everybody else, until the Doorman see's me and then I would enter...I remember Gilbert on of the most notorious Doorman from Miami & NYC, which never ever gave me crab, and why would he????We work the same industry!
Besides that, like I mention in a earlier reply we have to greatful for the customer which comes to the club, except as Pod mentioned, for the reason of capacity, drunkness and other justified reasons...

Sounds to me like you're a bit full of yourself. (and a serious name dropper.) Do you have the same attitude when you go up to the door? Just a guess but this may be the problem.

well i been in nyc for about a month now... and compared 2 miami the doorman here can be my children's god parents...

In miami the doorman def think their's gods gift. I was shocked 2 see how much much more professional the staff is nyc.. I think the mentality of assholes is the opium group fault though. There the one's w/ the attitude if we dont kno u, or if u dont have the right connections ur not getting in. They have the best and most exclusive clubs so they can get away w/ it. The problem is when other rinky dinky clubs try 2 be like them. Lucki 4 me i worked w/ a few of these frenchies so i got cool w/ them. But it seems like thats the company's mentality be rude 2 every1 u dont kno... (its like reverse psychology-treat them like shit and they will return) But in the end it hurts more then helps.. Look at suite/snatch when the 1st opened their door, The door staff couldn't care less who u were unless u had $100 for them. Or buying 3 bottles. But look at them now.. I kno as a local i wouldn't support them now. Now that there no longer the "it" spot suddenly im getting emails and invites 2 attend their parties. FUck u, i say!!

Ron,

Never said you were the guilty party. I was just outlining my reasons for not letting people into a club if I was in fact in charge of a door. We've never met, but I have seen you in venues before and you certainly conduct yourself well.

If anything, certain venues have been a little lax lately in their door policies. Now, I'm not talking about letting people in that aren't "up to dress code", but I'm talking about that I've been witness to, and a friend resigned from a venue over this, letting people in who were a clear and present danger to the safety of the patrons and staff in a venue. Said friend screened out aggressive, drugged up weenies and their accompanying Barbie dolls, and management decided to make an issue of it, since one crackhead had money.

you didn't read maybe the whole page or thread bro, in this case it was just to mention for the sake of situation...once you do this for a lifing to be in the industry, especially after over 12 years just in Miami-Beach being 44 years old...then its definitely no more about dropping names...but I guess for some it's sounds that way...
anyway...
Always love... 8)

Dirk, was co-owner of BED NYC...and I didn't attack Bed...and they're for sale! But again it's not because of the doorman they will close the door...and you see, I don't know why you feel agressed by it, becuase if you're not the owner what you worry about??? And besides, If they closes it's not because my rumors or your replies of my so called rumours..
It could be just of their own bussiness reasons! So who ever you may be since you mention my name...Don't take this personal!
The whole deal is
1 the doorman is been conducting wrongly!
2 I was never really aware of this!
3 I made this thread to publicly denounce this kind of behaviour, because it is time we become more humble to our customers which pay us the clubowners, the DJ's, the Promoter as well the staff and so far!
4 What's your deal???

I got you, and thank you for clarifying it...but I didn't take it like that it was more generally meant, that I was proper dressed, and all and it was nobody waiting at the door...the funny thing was that when we got there me and my friend, I saw a Miami-PD off duty, and he greeted me and my friend, right after that the whole deal went on...so I was wondering if this could have given the impulse to the doorguy, if this little moment of being known even to police officer (which shows how much i'm known here on SoBe... ) that he gave me attitude..
