A couple days before Saturday night, you could tell the place was going to go off. Anyone who attended will probably agree, the place was jumpin' all night. When I meandered inside around 1am, it was already hard to walk around without rubbing up onto everyone. There was a higher concentration of guys than girls in the place, but the women that did roam about in packs were pretty damn easy to look at. Victor has a strong gay following anyway, so the ratio was somewhat expected. Right off the bat the music had a tribal feel. That would turn out to be the theme of the whole night. The attitude was somewhat relaxed in the beginning then things started to heat up as the go go dancers took to their podiums and DJ's Luv & Lodi worked their magic. Victor jumped on the decks a little while after 3am. The energy in the place began on a steady rise that you could see all over. A couple guys took their shirts off, more girls jumped on couches and tables, and the VIP crowd was poking out from their hideout cubbyholes in the far wall. Some guy broke out a pair of glowsticks on strings, which seemed a bit out of place for the type of crowd. Initially it looked as though he was pissing people off as they ducked and dodged out of his way. Personally I think the place was way too packed to be twirling glowsticks. I watched him smack a couple people in the head. But eventually the crowd moved into a circle around him, and tensions eased when they saw he actually had a bit of talent using them. One great thing about the dance music crowd is that they are pretty forgiving. Gryphon's decor is impeccable, a mirage of shimmering crystals and light that gives the club a very surreal atmosphere. Victor's driving tribal beats in combination with the vibe of the club, and all the happy people that came out for him made for one hell of a party. Kudos to you Gryphon, I know I'll be back many more times. ![]() - More Photos - I also want to add that Gryphon's bartenders were polite and fast. Great service. Only complaint is that there isn't any dark beer selections. I don't even care what kind, one darker brand would be great. That goes for all of South Florida's nightclubs. Would it hurt you to stock a little Sam Adams? No. ![]() |
