| See you there! ![]() SHE ASKED - HE SAID! C: You are such a diverse producer, what defines your sound? A: People tell me that I have a sound but I have yet to discover it.I always try to have each production in some way be an extension of myself but I'm not always sure that I succeed. When I work It's like I get under some spell or something, the music just writes it self. I'm just a mediator for my inner self. I often don't even think of what to do next in the writing process, it kind of just happens. If I don't feel this creative energy or inspiration before I start to work I don't even bother working. I rather just put on a movie, go for a walk or to the opera which we should do when you are in New York next. The current set designer at the MET Opera is very good and inspirational! C: In my opinion you are one of the nicest guys in techno, and a lot of people admire how well you treat people. How have you managed to keep it real with all of your success? A: Thank you sis'. I have always just been myself. I see no reason to be mean, especially to people who actually enjoys your work. It doesn't mean that I don't get mad or annoyed with people from time to time. I do try to have a Buddhist outlook on life. A Buddhist quote that I like is "The greatest achievement is selflessness" -Atisha. C: What are your top labels at the moment? A: I can't really say as I don't buy music after labels like I used to. With the simplicity of having a digital label now days there are to many new labels coming out every day that I prefer to follow the artists that I like rather than a label. I can tell you some producers that I follow closely, people like Tim Xavier, Stimming, Agaric, Ascion, Par Grindvik, Matthew Dear, you of course, Lee Von Dowski and I'm always paying attention to what the South Americans are doing. C: When did your love affair with music begin? A: At a very young age. For as long as I can remember my family has been singing and dancing at every available moment. My father put me in classical guitar school at the age of seven and I stayed there till I was eleven. I did a few professional concert and I also was involved in traveling around schools in Stockholm playing for students promoting classical music. At the same time I was making mix tapes with two tape recorders and a very cheap two channel mixer that I'd gotten from my parents once they realized that I was getting in to mixing music together. I used to record the music(on to tapes) of a radio show in Sweden called 'The Soul Corner'. The Dj there used to play everything from soul to early house music. C: Tell us about your favorite gig experience, ever! A: Now thats a hard one. I really liked playing the 'Awakenings' party in Holland with Tony Rohr but I equally loved playing my first time in Medellin. I also played on top of a mountain in the north of Sweden over looking hundreds of snow covered mountains. They had to use helicopters to get the system up there. I also throw this free small parties in New York when ever I can and I have lots of fun doing that too, mainly because I get to play for a bunch of my friends whom I don't get to see so often due to my travels. C: Did you really breakdance last year at the WMC with Paco Osuna and Marco Carola? A:Yes I did. We where all at the PLOT party on a beautiful rooftop dancing when Marco came up to me and asked me if I breakdance, I thought he wanted to have some serious talk about our past so I started to tell him about my time as a breakdancer, he quickly stopped me and said -No, no Alexi...Can you breakdance now!!I said, Yes of course! We made a ring and I jumped in, he soon fallowed and so did Gaiser. That must have been the highlight of the conference for me. Mainly because non of us are good at it. C: Which wine is your favorite ??????? A: Hahaha, for whites right now I like the Sauvignon Blanc called Oyster Bay from Marlborough, Australia. For reds I like the Chilean 'Le Dix' from Los Vascos and the vintage red 'Almaviva' both Cabernet Sauvignon from Chile, the later is not an easy wine to find outside of Chile but it's like music to my mouth. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- HE ASKED - SHE SAID! A oes Camea mean anything?C:No, actually, it doesn't ! My parents made it up. Originally my dad thought I was going to be a boy, and so he wanted to name me Cam, but when I came out a girl they decided to make a variation on the name and made up Camea. A:Who was your biggest inspiration in life growing up and do the things that he/she said or the way they inspired you, when you where younger, still affect you? C:I think my biggest inspiration has been my father. He was very poor growing up and worked his way out of poverty to give us a better life. He always pushed me to believe that I could be successful if I was willing to work hard enough. Musically he was also my inspiration, as he introduced me to classical music at a very young age. I loved the drama in the sounds of Beethoven, Mozart and Chopin, and I think that is why I am so attracted to techno, because a good minimal techno set can take me on the same type of journey. A:At what age did you realize that music was something that could actually affect or inspire people? C:Ever since I can remember music has always effected me on a very deep level. I loved playing instruments growing up and I studied the piano very intensely. I have been performing music since I was about 8 years old. There has never been a question in my mind that music is one of the best ways to communicate, and I have always connected with it's affect on people. When I DJ, I am feeling the music at the same time as the crowd, which feels amazing. Experiencing audio in this way is one of the most exciting things I have ever been a part of. A:What defines your label Clink? C:Clink is my ongoing art project, I work on it everyday and am so lucky to have such great artists like you (Alexi) involved. It is basically a platform for new, creative ideas involving audio and visual concepts, and has a lot of great artists contributing (also Tim Xavier, Tony Rohr, Ambivalent, Mark Henning, Elon, Insideout, Par Grindvik, Paco Osuna and more). We work on so many different kinds of projects and I can't say one thing defines it, but it is the product of many people's hard work, creative ideas and great talent. A:I know you are Laptop Dj and I am a CD dj, If I want to get into playing with my laptop, what would you recommend or tell me to think about? C:ha! Good question .. I have been telling you forever to start using Traktor! Traktor is such an amazing platform that can be used with CDs or Vinyl. I love it because I can use a midi controller to access many loop functions and effects, and it really helps me create the sound I want. I can also play up to four tracks at one time ! Beat that, CD man. (just kidding, you are an amazing DJ! ) A:We are both suckers for wine, what's your favorite wine? C:Hmmmmm .... if I don't say Chilean, I could be in trouble here ........... A:What is the concept of the He Said / She said tour? C:This tour is a piece of a puzzle that we have been working on for awhile, and people will see more of it unveiled throughout the year. It started last January when we came up with a visual concept with our artist and you did some remixes on my EP, 'Happy Ending'. We had so much fun and we decided to take it further by working on more music together (the next EP should be out this Spring). We have also put our graphics into motion, connecting the artwork with the music via the VJ, as well as a few other surprises planned for the show. Alexi, I am so excited for this event ..... see you in Miami!
