| After postponing their original tour announcement and plans, U2 have unveiled their 2005 "Vertigo" tour. As revealed last Friday, the tour will kick off March 28 in San Diego, with the U.S. leg running about two months and wrapping up in Boston in late May. Up-and-coming Southern rockers Kings Of Leon will open the tour. The next leg of the tour will find the Irish rockers heading home to Europe for 24 stadium shows, starting June 10 in Belgium and ending in Lisbon on August 14. The band is expected to return to the U.S. for approximately 30 more arena shows in the fall. Tickets will go on sale for Boston, Chicago, Denver, Philadelphia and San Diego this Saturday, January 29. Tickets for Los Angeles, Anaheim and San Jose go on sale the next day, Sunday, January 30 and tickets for New York and East Rutherford go on sale next Monday, January 31. The indoor shows will be set up much like 2001's "Elevation" tour, with general admission floor tickets. Tickets will run from $49.50 to $165, a step up from the previous tour's prices of $45-$135. There will be an eight-ticket limit per person, with a two-ticket limit on general admission. Fan site u2log.com has revealed a seating chart for the San Diego show, which shows that an egg-shaped oval may be replacing the "heart" catwalk of the 2001 tour. Band manager Paul McGuinness told Billboard that U2 is considering releasing live recordings from shows as digital downloads. "We're exploring technology where it might be possible to download the show you've just seen," McGuinness said. "We've been talking to iTunes and the folks at Apple, with whom we have a great relationship, but it's not quite there yet. We're certainly looking at it." McGuinness also confirmed there will be a live DVD filmed at some point towards the end of the tour. U2 North American tour dates: March 28 - San Diego, CA - Sports Arena April 1 - Anaheim, CA - Arrowhead Pond April 5 - Los Angeles, CA - Staples Center April 9 - San Jose, CA - HP Pavilion April 14 - Phoenix, AZ - Glendale Arena April 20 - Denver, CO - Pepsi Center April 24 - Seattle, WA - Key Arena April 28 - Vancouver, BC - General Motors Place May 7 & May 9 - Chicago, IL May 14 - Philadelphia, PA May 17 & May 18 - East Rutherford, NJ May 21 - New York, NY May 24 & May 26 - Boston, MA |
